CHAPTER 50
"MELINA's REFLEX"

(super long one but worth it)

[real life]

"just let it go already." matt laughs as he walks next to melina in the crowded hallway as they make their way to the library.

"no! he gave me a grade i didn't deserve!" she exclaims, waving her graded pre-calculus test like it's a personal attack against her.

matt rolls his eyes. "a 65/90 isn't that bad, melina."

melina whirls around to face him, her expression full of disbelief. "not that bad?! matt, that's a C! i should've had an A! i cannot graduate with a fucking C on my report card!" she practically shoves the paper in his face as if sheer force will make him understand the injustice she's facing.

matt dodges the paper before it smacks him, shoving his hands into his pockets. "at least it's not an F." he says dramatically, pouting.

melina scowls at him, shoving his shoulder as they continue walking. "this isn't funny! i know i got everything right! mr. ellis hates me, i swear."

"maybe he just wants you to suffer a little," matt teases. "i mean, look at you. you're making it so easy for him."

"i will fight that man," she grumbles, aggressively shoving her test into her binder.

matt raises his brows. "you're really gonna throw hands with a fifty-something-year-old calculus teacher? that's your plan?"

"if that's what it takes," melina mumbles. "he's gonna explain how i lost those points. and then he's gonna fix my grade."

matt just shakes his head, amused. "just don't get sent to the office and besides it's not the final that's next week."

"no promises," melina says, slamming her locker shut. "but if i go down, you're coming with me."

"uh, no way." matt shakes his head.

melina gapes at him. "why not?!"

matt sighs, taking the test from her hands as he shrugs. "it's embarrassing, and i'm not about to get detention for something stupid."

"it's not stupid! you're my boyfriend—you're supposed to defend me!" melina narrows her eyes dramatically, leaning against her locker with her arms crossed.
