melina frowned deeply at the awkward conversation and decided to leave matt on read and just go to bed; trying not to show how much it bothered her that she was letting him get his way again.
what she didn't know was that only ten minutes away from her, matt was regretting what he said earlier at lunch that day. he hadn't meant to say what he did—not like that. not in front of everyone. not at her, but it slipped out.
he stared down at his phone, the glow of the screen casting sharp shadows across his face. her name sat there, unread, untouched. he hovered over the messages, thumb hesitating. and then, with a sharp breath, he shut it off.
he left his replies dry and distant. he had to make sure it looked like he didn't care. even if every part of him did.
matt was frustrated, with himself, at this whole situation, and at melina; for being so clueless but that wasn't really her fault. it was his, for not admitting how he felt about her that night at the party.
