CHAPTER 37 "THANKFUL FOR"
(extra, extra long chapter again!)
[real life]
it's been a few days since the halloween party last weekend.
melina and matt haven't spoken at all since the sleepover at izzy's.
she tells herself she doesn't care—that it doesn't matter—but deep down, the silence between them feels heavier than she expected. they've gone without talking before, sure, but this time it's different. neither of them is willing to be the first to break it.
she sees him in the halls, at lunch with their friends, in precal, economics, and sociology. melina's gone to his house a few times this week, but there's still no interaction between them.
no teasing, no bickering, nothing. and maybe that should be a good thing—less stress, less annoyance—but instead, it just feels weird.
today was the day she was dreading: thursday. she had sociology with matt and seth today and tomorrow.
she still hadn't spoken to seth either.
melina felt like she could explode, wishing she were at home, curled up in her comfortable bed.
having two guys mad at you sure does take a toll on a girl.
melina sighs, dropping her head onto the table as izzy slides onto the bench next to her with a bag of chips in hand.
"okay, what's with you?" izzy asks, nudging her arm.
"nothing, it's just too early," melina mutters, though even she doesn't believe it.
izzy gives her a look. "uh-huh, sure. let me guess—matt?"
melina groans, turning her head away. "why does everything have to be about him?"
izzy laughs. "because you're acting like it is."
"well, it's not," melina denies, crossing her arms as if that'll make it more convincing.
from the corner of her eye, she glances at matt and the others. they're all standing around the vending machine, getting snacks for the day.
izzy just hums knowingly, but before she can say anything else, the first morning bell rings, cutting their conversation short.
