Then

Martha stepped outside of the hospital and into the pouring rain after a long, strenuous day. Had it not been for a rogue band of pirates attempting, and failing miserably, to loot the town's marketplace, resulting in one too many casualties, the work day would have been much more relaxing. But that's what happens when one works in a medical profession. One day is slow and boring, while the next is quick and exhilarating. Not to mention exhausting.

Following right behind the older woman, a teenage Reyna triple-checked her messenger bag, making sure she had all of her belongings and extra supplies. (because one should always carry extra supplies in case of emergencies) The young lady accompanied her mentor for the day as they walked home together.

"You did a fantastic job today, Reyna," Martha praised her while navigating through the almost-flooded streets. "I hope you are proud of yourself, especially after helping the children today."

"I am, thank you, Martha," Reyna smiled brightly. "I feel like I am finally getting the hang of this. I just wish Mom was here to see me today."

"Even doctors have their sick days," Martha pointed out.

"I know, but Mom never gets sick. Not that I can remember, anyway," Reyna sighed, spotting the house in the distance.

"At least you will be there to help her if your mother is still under the weather," Martha said. "See you in the morning."

"Bright and early," Reyna watched the woman cross the street before walking up the front stone steps to her residence.

The house was completely dark when she entered the main foyer. There was no sound coming from the house, either. A very eerie silence caused a chill to go up Reyna's spine. Where was everyone?

"Mom," she whispered, fear for her mother's well-being erupted in her chest.

Reyna dropped her bag to the floor, toed off her shoe, flung her coat off her shoulders, and rushed up the grand staircase towards her mother's room. A shaky hand reached for the door knob, and with the tiniest squeak, the door opened to reveal a pitch black room. A metallic odor wafted through the air, tickling Reyna's nose instantly making her eyes water.

Covering her nose with one hand, Reyna reached for the light switch along the wall.

"Mom!" she shrieked in terror once the lights flickered on.

Now

Upon Reyna's return to the makeshift operating room, the woman was surprised to find the table and floor completely clean of any messes. No blood. No dirty towels. Nothing. It was as though no procedure occurred less than five minutes ago.

"You didn't need to do that," she spotted Sanji and Zeff throwing two large garbage bags into the trash bin in the kitchen area.

"You save a man's life, we clean up the leftover mess," Sanji replied. "It's only fair, right?"

"Touchè," the playful look in Sanji's eyes did not go unnoticed by her.

"Now then," Zeff packed the few remaining items into the basket brought over from Baratie."Since everything's taken care of, someone's got to go prep for a late Brunch. Don't waste any of that yellowtail, Sanji."

"Do I ever?" the blond raised an eyebrow at the man.

"Just reminding you."

"Zeff," Reyna made her way over to him as he went to exit the ship. "Thank you for helping us. I know you didn't want to or have to, but it means a lot. I'd also like to apologize for any misunderstandings this morning."
