Side Note: The timeline is a bit mixed up and ages are changed. But I'm not going to mention ages because with the magic of fanfic, I don't have to do the maths to try and make the oneshot storyline work.
(I just love this song. It's gorgeous. I'm surprised I haven't used it sooner)
He lost himself as he danced with her in their new home. A two bedroom cabin close to the edge of a village that lived on the edges of some woods. It was perfect, bit bigger than their underground home but still small enough to live comfortably.
They're bought their papers, gained an legal way to live above. All four of them. They'd used their month to rent a place, hopefully someday buy it once they're more use to a life above.
It's why the first moment he was alive with her, he pulled her close and danced. Danced as his mother would with him whenever something good happened in their home.
He actual smiled, truly smiled and witness her smile back at him. She had made him promise when they were younger to dance with her once they gain a home togehter. To carry on his mother's tradition.
They were happy, going to live better.
Yan had even been sent to the hospital, his legs being treated and he'd come stay with them once he's released in a couple of years. Unless the hospital helps him to find his own home somewhere. Otherwise they'd let him stay with them, help him find his own home and help him to gain a new life here.
They were all going to gain a new life here.
Together and on their own.
But they had one last job.
Had shown their passes that showed them as a citizen from above, legally, and the soldiers knowing they'd have to allow them back up when they return to the stairs. All four of them speaking over an excuse on needing to grab the last few bits they had been unable to carry when they first left the underground.
It wasn't a complete lie.
They had some money hidden up that they'd be taking with them after their final job. They knew they'd never plan to return to the underground and wanted to leave nothing they've earned behind to be stolen or forgotten.
"We shouldn't have accepted this job. We should have just left and never shown up" Mikasa sighed as she glanced around, feeling as if they were testing their luck with fate by returning after they had finally gotten out.
"We had to agree to the job. Act as if we were never planning to leave otherwise someone would have figured out we were leaving and spread rumours. Someone might have tried to stop us or try to start a war behind our backs. We had to accept, we had no other choice" Levi quietly replied, making it clear that they had no other choice unless they wanted to grow suspicious at the time.
"But we got out. We should have ditched this job or left it to the lot that took over after us. Yan trained them well enough. They could have given this job a go" Furlan spoke up his own thoughts as he didn't agree with them returning for a job. Those chosen and taught by Yan was running their turf now, they should have done the job.
