Bondita

Getting out of the cab, Maa wiped my tears and we walked to the front of the temple..

"Bete, please take care of her, I have put a lot of trust in you..." Maa said vulnerably and I refused to look up at the man standing in front of me

"I will..but first I need to know if Bondita wants this too?" I snapped my head up at the familiar voice and my breaths hitched looking at him

He stood before us in a white shirt and black pants with a tilak on his forehead behind him stood his mother and Dhani

I was shocked would be an understatement, I could not understand anything happening right now..

"Bondita, do you want to marry me?" He asked me without beating around the bush and I gulped

"Beta, whatever your decision is we will accept it, if you don't want to marry Anirudh even then we will do everything to stop your father from marrying you.." Anirudh Sir's mother said coming forward

I looked at my mother who was looking at me with tear filled eyes, my eyes then trailed to Dhani who was smiling at me..

And then I looked at him who was looking at me expectantly, all those moments I have spent with him flashed across my eyes and I swallowed

I took a step back and all of their faces turned downwards

"I can't, you don't have to marry me out of sympathy, Sir.." I said hoarsely

I would never want him to ruin his life just because of me, I would never want to become a burden to him, and I don't want anyone's sympathy or pity either..

"I am not marrying you out of sympathy Bondita, infact sympathy is the last thing that will come to mind ever for you, I can never, if anything then the truth is that I like you Bondita.." he said firmly and I looked at him in disbelief

"Bondita, I know this everything is overwhelming for you, I know you are going through a lot of things and you do not understand a thing right now..but as Maa said the last decision is yours if you don't want to marry me I will happily accept your decision and I also promise that I will not let you get married to that man, just give a nod.." he said and everyone waited with baited breaths looking at me

I have always imagined myself dressed in red jora and sitting beside Anirudh sir as his bride and today when he is standing in front of me asking for my dream to come true then I find it hard to accept that it's not just a dream and I refuse to wake up from my sleep..

I nodded gulping as tears streamed down my eyes, his eyes softened as he smiled softly looking at me and forwarded his hand..

Shakily I kept my hand in his and he pulled me to the staircase of the temple, we climbed and he made sure that he was walking beside me and not ahead of me..

That made my heart flutter at his small gestures..

As we entered inside the temple the priest standing there handed us the garlands, he made me wear it first and at my turn he bend down to my level without any shame or hesitation, I smiled...

He then made me sit infront of the holy pyre and sat beside me, his mother came and kept another red chunar on my head, hiding my face completely..

The priest started to chant the mantras and I looked at him from my peripheral vision he had closed his eyes and his hands were joint together, he looked ethereal as the flames of fire radiated on his face, following his lead I did the same and closed my eyes joining hands..

Maa came forward to do my kanya Daan and tears started to leave my eyes again I had never imagined this, I had always imagined every one of my family members beside me while I am being tied to someone for forever.

Dhani came forward and tied my veil and the dupatta hanging on his shoulder together tightly..

We stood up and took seven pheras in every round I took an oath to take care of his family and him, to be there at their lowest, to always selflessly devote myself to them, to always bring happiness to them, to never cause them ever any trouble, and at last to always be grateful of them..

As the pheras got over the priest handed him the vermilion, my Maa held my veil up as he filled my partition a small amount of vermilion fell on my nose and I closed my eyes as a tear left my eye..

He wiped it away and shook his head indicating me to not cry, I nodded..

Afterwards he tied the nuptial chain around my neck

"With the blessings of almighty, Now I declared you two as husband and wife.." the priest said handing me over the flowers kept on Durga Maa's feet

I looked at him and he had a serene and calm look on his face as he smiled looking at me and I couldn't help but return the smile softly..

"BONDITA!!!!!" My eyes widened as I turned around and looked at my father fuming in rage standing in front of us

No!!
