5. the challenge

          war is all i've ever know. but am i really ready to go at war with the whole coalition? if it means proving a point about skaikru then yes i am ready. i make my way out of the throne room but not far out of the tower before i see echo. i follow her and she leads me to the queen and ambassadors
"good work nia"
"i could never do it without you azgona"
"we have our war thanks to the mountain man"
i see him show himself behind her
"what about clarke?"
"by the commanders side, as predicted. your son as a prisoner"
echo says
"not for long. soon he'll be free and lexa will be dead"
"she tried to take me as well. she has become weak for clarke"

death is another thing that i've know my whole life just like war and just like lexa. i know nia wants to challenge her and wants me to fight. wants me to kill lexa. i don't know how i feel about this though.
"are you listening?"
nia ask in the tent we have set up not so far away from polis, i just nod
"i know they won't dare arrest you but me on the other hand. i'll be surprised if i'm not dead as soon as they see my face"
"your point is?"
"i want you to turn me over to them so i can get in front of all the ambassadors and challenge her. i want you there to prove the point that she has no power because they won't arrest you and when i challenge her you will be there to fight for me"
fight lexa. i cut off my sisters head and delivered it to her for the queen and now she wants me to go further and kill her. i need to get out of my head. if this is what's best for my people then it's needs to happen
"then lets go turn you in for my plan"
now it's her turn to nod
"(Zeus lets go)"
"(yes azgona)"
we mount our horses to head to the gates which we could have just walked because it took no time to get there

          i hear guards yelling as soon as they see us get close to the gates
"(azgeda)"
"(azgona)"
is all i hear going around
"(i bring the commander the queen of azgeda)"
they look confused as i'm holding her by her arm but they shortly take her from me
"(we have her from here azgona)"
"(im afraid i can't just let you take her, i will come with you to the commander)"
he does not seem to like the idea but walks off towards the tower
"(heda will not be happy to see you)"
titus says to me
"(but i bring a gift)"
he stares at nia
"what is this"
"my gift"
i smile, he just shakes his head and it's not long before he brings us into the throne room
"(bring in the accused)"
nia is chained up and held my 2 guard as i walk freely. she stares at her son and clarke as i stare at lexa whose eyes were burning into me much like clarkes were. nia is shoved to her knees but i just stand there
"queen nia of azgeda has confessed to the destruction of Mount Weather, resulting in the death of 49 members of Skaikru. Wanheda, what say you?"
we all turn to her
"Skaikru demands justice, and we know it was not the queen responsible."
everyone now turns to me
"(ice nation does not answer to this girl,-"
"(silence!) the punishment for your crime is death"
i laugh a bit because this is crazy, all of this for some stupid people who fell out of the sky and he even ignored her comment basically accusing me. titus stares at me for my laughter
"would you like to say something azgona?"
"azgeda did what needed to be done and the queen will not die for it"
"i'm afraid you have no say in this. nia do you have anything to say in your defense?"
"i need no defense. she does. today is judgment day. i call for a vote of no confidence."
"take this queen to meet her fate. and take azgona with her"
i nod my head no at the guards and they stop moving
"(not so fast)"
an ambassador says behind us. i turn to see him standing up
"(commander no longer)
and so the chant began
"(your time is over lexa)"
"take them away too"
"you know that's not how this works titus"
"lexa please execute these traitors"
"let them make their move"
"commander, what is this?"
clarke, so clueless of our ways ask
"this is a coup"
"this is the law. her law. a unanimous vote of the ambassadors or death are all that can remove a Commander from power."
"it's not unanimous"
"you do not know our ways clarke. so don't start acting like you do"
"we don't recognize the legitimacy of Skaikru."
"we do. yesterday, skaikru took the brand. they are the 13th clan. this vote of no confidence fails. all these coup plotters will suffer the exact same fate as the Ice Queen, including Azgona."
i felt taking back, titus of all people has always valued my life, my blood, and my title. i'm the only one with my blood and he has always praised me for that.
"she won't take our heads because she knows our armies will retaliate. especially if she kills Azgona. none of us here wants war."
"we both know what you want, nia. what you both want."
she stares at us as she walks down from her throne. i don't have much to really say in this situation so i keep standing here saying little to nothing
"if you see me unfit to command, issue the challenge and let's get on with it"
"very well, you are challenged"
"and i accept your challenge"
"so be it"
titus speaks very loudly
"(single combat.) warrior against warrior. to the death. nia of azgeda, who do you choose to be your champion?"
she looks at roan but never at me. maybe her mind is changed.
"My ice blood. Azgona kom Azgeda"
maybe it is not. everyone seems shocked not expecting this fight
"heda, who will fight for you?"
lexa has been staring at me since the words left nia's mouth, since i walked in basically. she finally turns and goes back to her seat to sit down
"(i'm the commander.)"
i can see the fear forming in Titus's eyes, he knew what she was doing. if i was fighting there was no chance she would choose someone to fight for her
"(no one fights for me)"
titus and clarke share a scared look
"(everyone leave now)"
the room clears out and it is just me a and me
"i told you i'd give you war"
"this ends with one of us dead aspen. one of us killing the other. how do you think our people will feel?"
"how do you think they felt when you brought in people to our home that have done nothing but cause us problems?"
"this isn't how this was suppose to go. we were supposed to rule together!"
i pause before saying anything to her
"did you notice how on the night skaikru was making a treaty with us some of their people snuck into your home and killed some of our people and was ready to kill us"
"you killed their people!"
"they killed ours first"
"you are no better then they are. at least they are in my coalition, you are not and after i kill you, azgeda will not be either."
"kill me? lexa you've never even beat me in a fight. you have this whole thing backwards. you are in my coalition and i will kill you when we fight"
"(go! now!)"
i laugh as i go to leave, kill me?
"(you are a  fool lexa)"
