12. no killing

          i've had all the power i ever needed my whole life. would that really be different now? are my people really going to betray me?
"this is as far as we're going"
bellamy speaks up, i look around and it's dark out but i see the tower standing in the middle of polis. clarke gets out and bellamy follows. roan and i are shortly after
"all right, this is where we split up. the entrance to the tunnel is right over there"
roan says
"we know where it is"
"i'm gonna need the flame. look, this only works if they send ontari out to get it. if they don't see it they won't do that. not much of a trap without the bait"
she pulls the flame out
"fine. aspen can have it but i'm coming with you two"
"no way. that is not the plan"
bellamy argues
"it is now. i'm not letting that out of my sight"
i could just chop her hand off once we get away from the group. she won't die and my word to lexa will be fine. but then again she knows more about this ai and if i put it in ontari something could go bad
"and i'm the only one who knows the passphrase. so you can tell them that without me, ontari can't ascend"
and then there's that problem
"you'll need to look like our prisoner"
"okay"
"wait a second. give us a minute"
roan and i walk off for them to talk
"you've been pretty quiet"
"don't have anything to say"
"that's a first"
"this whole thing is a first. i would never trust skaikru, yet here we are"
"it's our only option"
"there's always another option. and if i say something i might end up killing them all"

our walk to the city was long, night turned to day by the time we arrived. clarke was tied up as a prisoner while we walk through. something feels off, allie has definitely taken over this whole place. blood is spread all across the floor and there's no one in sight.
"your friends better be in position. when this is over, ontari will know you helped her. you have my word"
roan interrupts my thoughts
"she hasn't done anything yet"
i continue leading us and see a few people on their knees paying no attention to anything
"so much for the thousands of people"
none of these are my people
"i am azgona, queen of azgeda. and i have what the commander seeks"
i show the flame, that was the first time i have introduced myself as queen. it is still a surreal feeling. all of the people stand once i show it
"and i am roan, king of azgeda. i don't like what i'm sensing. so, if she wants it, she can come to us"
some people start to appear out of the tower
"hello, clarke. your mother will be so pleased to see you"
"who are you? where's ontari?"
"not coming out. but you can give the flame to me. i'll be sure she gets it"
"id rather break the thing right here. which i will do if i don't see her"
"your friends in the tunnel can't help you"
clarkes eyes shoot to the man and mine too her
"you traitors"
i say to her, she just shakes her head no
"now give me the flame"
i nod my head at roan and he snatches clarke to him with his knife to her throat
"back up or she dies"
"save the theatrics. we know you're together. we know everything"
"then you know she's the only one who can activate the flame"
"you're right. we need her alive."
"i'm sorry can we stop for a minute. i have no idea who you think you are barking orders at me. i'm azgona kom azgeda, i have all the power over these people and these lands, you do not. and you don't either allie. wherever you are"
"your power doesn't work here"
"this is how this will play out, im going to get to ontari, im going to kill anyone who tries to stop me, and i'm going to kill allie"
he didn't have a response to that for a second
"we need you alive too aspen"
"run"
i hear roan say but i don't move as they take off
"but we don't need you"
and roan was shot
"marcus?"
clarke looked terrified as they grabbed her i stiffened my stance ready to take them but i see no point, there's too many i need a plan. so i let them take me too. i'm sorry roan.
"(your fight is over)"
i whisper still staring at roan laying there lifeless then they turn me to walk into the tower
"congratulations you get your old room back"
"not old if it's still mine"
i spit at him
"(get out)"
and they did as i said. like they remembered who i was
"your scared i still have power over them aren't you, allie?"
"how do you know about her"
"i have my ways"
john told me everything that day, i thought he was crazy then but now i believe it all
"you can stay locked up until you take the chip"
"i'll kill everyone in polis before i take that thing"
"so be it"
and so be it indeed. he left my room like the guards had earlier. if i can sneak up on everyone i can kill then but if they see me they can kill me with their guns. there's no good plan here. i feel my eyes barley staying open. i'm not going to get anywhere without rest. i look to my right to see a chair. perfect. i prob it against the door and get some rest

i hear a bunch of chaos going that wakes me from my rest. my door busts open
"lets go queen"
john murphy says as he enters my room
"well look what allie drug in"
he laughs
"now you believe me?"
"guess i do, what's the plan"
"i don't know i'm really just going with the flow"
we walk into the elevator to see bellamy
"oh you came to save me too, you shouldn't have"
"i doubt you needed saving"
"that's one thing you're right about"
"we're not killing anyone, aspen. let's be clear about that"
"you know i don't take orders from you"
"so should i go ahead and shock you?"
"you can try"
someone starts trying to break into the elevator
"they're coming in"
"murphy get the baton ready. shock him, murphy"
they keep doing that as i stand there. one jumps in on murphy and i hit him with the end of my sword knocking him unconscious
"do i get one of those?"
"no"
"oh come on"
they guy who i thought was unconscious surprisingly jumps back up, so i do what i normally would have and cut his head off
"i said no killing anyone!"
"i tried that! if we want to get out of here alive some people have to die"
he just shook his head
"thank you"
john said to me and i nod my head at him
"okay here's the plan, we're going to get up there and drop gas down to knock them out. so no one else has to die"
i glare at bellamy and shrug my shoulders
"we'll see about that"
"here's a gas mask"
we start to climb up and get settled. the doors start to open and they throw the gas down.
"that seems too easy"
"doesn't always have to be a fight"
bellamy says
"yes it does"
i say and walk off to the thrown room. as soon as i enter i rip my mask off and see ontari on the ground
"aspen, stop him! he has the flame"
i throw a knife at the man and rush over to get the flame
"bellamy"
"hey are you okay?"
"is she alive is she breathing"
she asks john. i finally found it. i safely put it in my pocket
"we can't let onarti die. we have to stop the bleeding. her pulse is weak"
"at least she's alive"
"she won't be much longer after letting this happen to polis"
"it's not the time for that aspen"
clarke says to me, i nod my head agreeing with this
"what are you going to do"
john asks
"i need a flashlight"
clarke says digging through the backpack
"first we take out the chip. then we put in the flame"
"her pupils are unresponsive"
clarke leans back away from ontari
"what? what does that mean"
"why are you stopping"
"she's brain dead. she can't give us the kill code. it's over"
"we're trapped here"
john realizes
"it's never over"
