6. Nanami has good friends ✧

I open the door to see a smiling Haibara.

I usher him out to the backyard where Nanami already is.

Time passes by quickly as we chat, our cups that were filled with tea now empty.

I ask them if they want seconds and Haibara says he'd like some.

Nanami says he's good.

Squeezing Nanami's hand that has somehow come under my grasp, I stand to head inside.

The ring on my finger catches the ray of sun sneaking in through the trees.

Haibara sees this and smiles.

He's happy that Nanami has found someone.

I think otherwise.

I'm happy that I found Nanami.

The others are coming over for barbecue toda-

"NANAMI! WE'RE HERE!"

Nanami does not even try to look happy as Gojo speedwalks to him.

I stifle a giggle as Getou hands me the ingredients they've brought.

Haibara is setting up the chairs.

Shoko instructs the kids to help and then she's off to the corner sneakily lighting up a cigarette.

I pretend not to see for once and instead smile at the kids who come over to me asking what they should do.

Megumi helps me in sorting through the ingredients while apologising because his parents couldn't make it.

Yuji and Nobara who told me they'd help set up the grill are now bickering over something with exaggerated hand movements.

Megumi sighs in exasperation. I chuckle and pat his head.

"Leave them be. Panda and the rest should be here soon."

Minutes later, Maki, Panda and Toge arrive, bringing drinks and fireworks..?

"Nanaken!" I forgot where I left the burner.

Nanami looks over at me at the mention of his name.

He helps me find the burner and then steals a peck from me before we head out again claiming he needs strength to deal with the annoying asparagus.

And then it's back to the 'asparagus' elbowing him because of the way I call him 'Nanaken' and also because I look flustered after we stepped out of the house.

Getou and Haibara simply stand by Gojo's side laughing at Nanami's misery.

After barbecue, we light up the fireworks over our bottles of beer.

They leave soon after, the older ones driving the "kids" home.

Nanami sinks into our bed clearly exhausted.

Putting the blankets over him after aligning his legs to the side, I slip under the covers too.

I turn to sleep on my side because I know Nanami is tired and might want his space.

But not a minute later, his hand tugs my body closer to him and his chin settles on the crook of my neck.

I pat his hand on my stomach twice to wish him a silent goodnight.
