I've sat myself on the couch next to the lamp.

I'm going to paint my nails tonight.

Nanami is on the other side of the couch reading a book.

The speaker on the table is playing music.

It surprises me when the next song that plays is one by My Chemical Romance.

Nanami looks up from his book for a moment.

I send a cheshire smile his way.

"Say Nanaken, you had an emo phase, didn't you?"

"No, I didn't." A quick response.

I can't help but laugh.

"Oh come on..  there's no need to be embarrassed about it.  You even had the hair and every-"

His hand is immediately on my mouth, preventing me from saying another word.

His book closed hastily and left on the table, his body leaning forward to cover the distance.

I wait for him to speak because I can't.

".. It's," his eyebrows are furrowed.

"..a little embarassing."

The silence that follows threatens to be broken with a laugh from my end.

When I don't laugh, he searches my eyes for a response.

But mine provide no answers as they stare back into his own.

He finally lets go.

I stifle my laughter into a smile and go back to painting my nails, softly humming along to the song.

While I leave my nails to dry, I look over at Nanami.

An impulsive thought makes its way out my mouth.

"Let's paint your nails, Nanaken!"

He turns to me aghast.

When he sees I'm serious, he sighs.

"Dear, don't you think I've outgrown that?"

"Nonsense."

"But I have work tomorrow.."

"Don't worry, we have nail polish remover and everything."

The smile on my lips get wider as I see him about to relent.

"Please..?"

He gives in.

"Only the left."

"Okay."

I lift his left hand to shake on it.

Then turning our handshake sideways, I give his hand a little squeeze.

"Let's begin then."

Nanami allows me to paint his nails in black, while he covers his face with his other hand.

I hear him groaning, "This is so embarassing."

🖤🖤🖤

"There. Now, we wait for it to dry."

Nanami looks emotionlessly at his nails.

He turns to me as though asking me to return his nails to their normal state.

"Okay, okay" I stand to leave. "I'll get the polish remover."

"Shame it turned out so good too.."

Nanami is aware of how my steps are hesitant when I join him again on the couch.

He looks at my hands which are empty.

"Umm... Sooo the thing is..." I avoid his face.

"We don't have any nail polish remover left."

I swear, I see his face lose colour when I sneak a look at him.

His face goes from a dead to deader look.

"Huh?"

"But!" My hands move around frantically. "We can stop at a convenience store or something tomorrow before you go to work...?"

He stands up and makes a beeline for the room.

I follow him, trying to match his long strides.

"I'm sorry, I thought we still had some and I didn't-"

He turns around to face me and I see in his hand, his wallet and the car keys.

I feel small under his gaze.

Seeing my state, his shoulders relax and he rests a hand on my head.

"I'm not mad at you," he assures me. "I just.."

I see him search for an appropriate string of words to tell me.

"I'd rather do this now then leave it for the morning."

"But it's late.." I glance at our bedroom clock and see  that it's nearing 11 pm.

"I'll just head to the nearest convenience store."

"Can I come with?"

He lets the smallest of smiles escape his lips.

"Let's go."

🖤🖤🖤

The man at the counter seems a little confused we came to get just nail polish remover in the middle of the night but he doesn't question us.

Nanami, I noticed, has his left hand in the pocket of his pants.

Holding in my laughter, I grab his hand and head out the store.

This time, the speaker in the car plays soft music as I use the wipes on Nanami's nails.

I miss the soft look that passes his face as he waits for me to finish.

A/N: I'm running out of ideas... Should I try to continue or should I end the book? 👀
