Life in the Red Keep had been good and peaceful while Rhaenyra toured the realm. An extravagant feast had been held in honor of the twin princesses, The King and Queen beamed as their daughters were presented to the sworn nobles. Lavish gifts had been laid at the feet of each princess's cradle, and the High Septon prayed over both babes, asking the gods to bless them.

Ravens from across the realm had flown to King's landing carrying word of Rhaenyra's whereabouts. And though Elowen wrote back, wishing to get word of the new members of House Targaryen to Rhaenyra, she didn't know if she had received them or if the Princess was once more ignoring her stepmother's presence.

An anger festered in Viserys at his daughter and heir's perceived cruelty to his wife. Elowen attempted to extinguish the flames, promising that she felt no ill will. She took the blame, swearing that her letters must have merely arrived too late or that Rhaenyra just found herself too occupied with suitors to write back. Though Viserys noticed how Elowen's smile had continued to dim the longer she went unanswered.

A day after a raven from Storm's End had arrived telling of Rhaenyra's arrival a dragon had been spotted on the horizon traveling west over the Blackwater Bay. It grew larger and larger until as a familiar piercing cry was heard.

Elowen and Viserys had returned to their chambers following the small council meeting, spending time with their small children. Alyssa and Aegon played on the floor at their parent's feet, crawling across the rug with toy dragons held tightly in their chubby hands. Helaena laid in her mother's arms, cooing as her fingers tangled in brunette locks.

The door to their chambers being thrown opened startled the children, causing them to cry out. Viserys bent down lifting Alyssa into his arms as he stood to his feet. Aegon ran to his mother, climbing onto the chaise beside her and burying his face in her neck. Elowen soothed the children she held, watching as Viserys quietly spoke to his Hand.

She worried as his shoulders tensed, ignoring Otto to look back at his wife. At the haunted look in his eyes, Elowen understood what was happening. Daemon had returned.

The young Prince and Princesses were quickly given over to their nursemaids, as Elowen focused on calming her husband's anxieties. She walked with him to the Great Hall, keeping his hand in hers.

Two servants had followed the King and Queen into the Great Hall. Presenting the royal couple with two cushions holding two crowns of matching gold. Elowen had lifted the crown, placing it atop Viserys's head. Her hands swept from the cold metal down to his cheeks, cupping his face in her hands. His hands came up to brace hers, turning his head to press a kiss to the heel of her hand. He pulled her hands from his face, turning to place her own crown atop her head.
