"Okie dokie," Jacob said placing the tray into the oven. "Now we just gotta wait a few minutes!" He said smiling, he looked at me "thanks for being my sous-chef, Y/n. I know these cookies are gonna taste even better with your help." He said, I smile at him "I can't wait to try them!" I say gently biting my lip, we stay quite as we listened to the steady pattern of rain, it's not stopping at all. I could hear thunder rumbling over us, "soooo... What should we do while we wait?" I asked my friend "well," Jacob started "Before you got here, I was actually doin' a but of scrapbookin'. Just reorganizing a few things 'round." He said, his eyes looked behind me. "I ordered some new camera lenses, but I know they're completely ruined by Austin." He says his eyes glaring at the box "thankfully..." He said looking back at me "The place I ordered them from accept damaged returns from poor handling, so at least I'm not at a loss." He looked back at me "I'll just have to wait a little longer before I can test out these lenses. It's for my cameras." I learned back on the counter "what makes these lenses so special?" I asked tiling my head "the lenses I ordered are called 'zoom lenses'." He starts "A zoom lens let's me see something REALLY far away. It's perfect for long distance sightseeing." He said I see him smiling a little bit "oh cool! Is there something specific you wanna use your zoom lens for?" Jacob smiled at me "maybe for taking pictures of birds," he started "some large wild animals and smaller fellas too. With a zoom lens, I can pretty much take pictures of anythin'." He said
"Nothin' can get out of my sight."
His eyes not leaving mine. Another flash of light covers the windows "Wow, this storm really ain't calming down..." Jacob said looking at it "anyways," he said changing the subject "I also wanna take some photographs of a few landscapes and other nature scenery. If you ever wanna get into photography, just let me know, Ill even let you borrow some of my cameras." He offered  "oh thanks Jacob! Real nice of you to offer." I say blushing lightly at the blonde man. He turns to grab a oven mitt and gently puts it on "I'm gonna go check on the cookies, feel free to take a seat on the couch." Jacob said as he bent over to look in, God damn he got a fat as-
I nodded and walked over to the couch and saw his book he was talking about. I sit down seeing a few photos strewn about. A lot of them are Jacob when he was much younger.... He was cute.. "Good news!" I hear Jacob say "the cookies are down!" He sat down next to me with a hot plate of fresh cookies "they look so good!" I say almost drooling "Go head Y/n," he said "take the first piece!" I smile as I grab a big bookie and bite into it, the cookie was soft and moist in all the right places, the warm chocolate practically melted into my mouth "Jacob..." I say slowly looking at the man "these are the best damn cookies I've ever had!" "I'm glad you li-" I cut him off "I NEED this recipe. P L E A S E." my neighbor seems flattered and chuckles at my over exaggerated desperation. "Ok! Ok here, Ill it write it down for you real quick." He said writing and then handing me his 'Best Goddamn Cookies In The World' recipe, my attention goes back to the table, Jacob grabs a cookie and flips through some of the pages of the scrapbook. "You looked real cute as a teen Jacob." I say kinda cuddling up against him. He kinda put a arm around me making me a blush a bit "Yup." He said "This scrapbook is specifically dedicated to my high school years. I found a few old pictures in one of the boxes while I was cleaning last week." He looks at the book again "Decided today was a good time to organize things." Jacob takes a big bite out of his cookie. I pick up one of the polaroids off the table. "That's a picture of  when my dad took us to Louisiana one summer." He said smiling widely "some of the best crawfish and gumbo you'll ever have is in Louisiana. Heh, I found that eating the crawfish with your bare hands makes you feel like a raccoon! Well to me at least." I giggle a bit just imagining Jacob eating like a raccoon, I look at the picture again seeing a happy dog looking a tbr camera under Jacob's arm "was this your dog?" I asked him,
"Yeah, her name is Lucy, my dad got me her as a birthday gift when I was a kid." I smile at the picture "awww is she a Labrador?" I asked looking back at Jacob "Yup. She's a Labrador retriever. Very friendly dog." He looks down "i miss her a lot." He takes another bite out of his cookie. I noticed the change of tone "what happened to her?" He stayed still after I asked that. He stopped chewing to focus on on his words. "... She... She was taken from me." I hear sniffing from Jacob and I just hold him tight. "So.....about your dad, you seem pretty close to him. You even look just like him!" I say rubbing his hand Jacob nuzzled me a bit "my dad taught me a lot of things growing up, even got me interested in various hobbies," he explained "From repairing computers to teaching me history. He really liked a lot of vintage stuff, like from the 1950e 1960e and 1970s." He looks at me "I try to visit him at least twice a year. We like to go fishing together" I smile, thinking about how great Jacob's and his dad has a great relationship.... Unlike me.. "Who took the photo? Your mom?" I asked him still looking at the picture awwing at the puppy "yea. She took the photo using my Polaroid camera." He said "I don't have that many photos of her, she never really wanted to be in any of them." I put the photo down gently "Has your mom been ok?" I asked nuzzling against his shoulder loving how warm he feels. I hear him think, "Erm..." He started "we didn't really see eye-to-eye on a lot of things. About a month after I graduated high school, I packed my things and left her house.... Haven't talked to her since." He said kinda cold.
I picked out another picture from the table "what's this one?" I asked giggling at the shy picture of Jacob "does it have a story?" Jacob quickly looks at the picture, I see him smile "Ah, that's me and Sarah at the county fair. We were both sophomores in high school." I look at him again, gently hugging his arm blushing a bit "was she one of your friends?" I asked "yeah." He said nuzzling me back, gently rubbing my back "We were friends since we were in kindergarten." It was quite for what seemed like minutes, just listening to him finishing his cookie. "Soooo...." I start "what happened?" I asked "Hm?" Jacob finished his cookie "what happened to sar-" "we stopped being friends in senior year in high school." He cut me off "that's all." His to me changed drastically, from that soft gentle voice to a harsh tone. He grabs another cookie, this time nearly shoving the whole thing into his mouth.
I take the hint to change the subject.
I hummed hearing the endless rain and occasional rumble of thunder was the only sound between us. I look back at the picture taking in how happy they are. Just imagining breaking up a friendship in the last year of high school sounds painful, I see a picture sticking out loosely from one of the scrapbook pages. I grab it and see a dark street with someone's back facing the camera... It kinda looked like Sarah's hair "Jacob?" I Pat his arm to get his attention. "What's this one?" I asked him, he quickly snatched the picture and stared at it for a while. ".... It's nothing special." He said "This picture was for an old class assignment." He explained "my photography class let us take pictures of different categories. This one was for street photography." He said not looking away from the picture. "street photography is capturing everyday life events, usually within a city or town. I liked taking pictures of people walkin'. Just going 'round the town, minding their own business." He said, I look at the picture again ".... Is that.. Sarah?" I asked noticing the red hair and pink scrunchie. He looks at me and doesn't say a thing. He finally spoke "does it matter if it is?" He's glaring at me "it's just some street photography. Caught her one day in town and decided to snap a few photos for my assignment. Nothin' more." He said, he looks at the picture again "This one actually needs to be put into a different scrapbook." He said pushing the picture onto his back pocket.
