As soon as we were out of earshot of Warren, Terrence cleared his throat and bowed his head deeper to Harrison. "Is h-"

"I suggest that what you are about to say isn't a thought that crosses your mind for the time being, Terrence," Harrison warned, interrupting him while he gave him a pointed look, and Terrence's eyes grew wide.

Terrence looked at me and then looked at Harrison. His heart skipped a beat before it started to pound faster in his chest. He gulped before he cleared his throat while he looked between us again.

I didn't say a word, but I couldn't help but be curious as to what he meant. However, I didn't question it because I knew that it wasn't something worth mentioning.

It wasn't safe...

"O-O-Of course," Terrence said before he cleared his throat and shifted a little away from Harrison. "My apologies."

"Hmph." Harrison set his jaw and looked at me before he looked the way we were again. His whole body was tense, and I had a feeling that he was wondering if I was going to ask what Terrence meant or not.

Terrence looked at me before he looked at Harrison again. He didn't say a word, and I had a slight feeling that he was curious about something but didn't know how to say it without Harrison scolding him.

Harrison cleared his throat and stuffed his hands into his pockets. His whole body was tense, and he set his jaw. "How are the girls?" he asked while he looked at Terrence with a raised eyebrow, silently telling him to "shut up."

Terrence nodded and cleared his throat. He set his jaw and submitted slightly, silently telling Harrison that he wouldn't push him. "They are as fine as they can be," he said before he cleared his throat again. "They know that you are coming." He looked at me. "Both of you."

Harrison grunted before he slowly nodded. He set his jaw and looked at me before he looked at Terrence again. He didn't say a word, and Terrence hesitated and looked at him before he looked towards the way we were going.

I didn't say a word either and grabbed the bags tighter. My whole body was tense while I looked around, hating the fact that this pack felt... off.

There was no laughter, no light, and I hated the feeling of this place. It felt dark and cold and full of fear that I couldn't fully describe in words and didn't want anything to be a part of but knew that I had to for the safety of these two kids we were supposed to get.

We walked the rest of the way to their house in silence, and we stopped in front of the door.

Terrence cleared his throat and knocked on the door to the house before he placed his hands behind his back and waited for someone to open the door.

The door opened and revealed a girl with brilliant green eyes eating some popcorn. Her eyes grew wide, and she looked slightly nervous when she saw Harrison and me standing behind him. She didn't say a word while she looked at us and then at Terrence.

"Nila," Terrence said and nodded in greeting as well as answering her silent question about us. "How are you?" he asked and raised an eyebrow.

Nila hesitated before she finished the popcorn in her mouth and reached for another bite. She didn't say a word while she looked at us, and I couldn't help but raise an eyebrow in question, becoming slightly amused but also getting concerned since she hadn't said a word.

Was she ok..?

"Are you ok?" Terrence asked as if he read my mind. He furrowed his brows and cocked his head while he looked at her, looking concerned but also amused as if he knew what she was thinking. "You seem a bit... off."
