They don't notice

Next time you pass somebody

Remember

They may look at you

But all they see is an empty shadow

They don't notice

The pain behind your eyes

Or the bruises on your legs

Or the cuts on your wrists

Hidden by long sleeves

And bracelets

And drug store foundation

They don't notice

How you are silently suffering

From a broken heart

That not even his warm hug

Or her soothing voice

Or even your favorite song

Could heal

They don't notice

The way you wobble when you walk

Because you haven't eaten

In almost a week

Or the way you slur your speech

Because you stayed up last night

Drinking the pain away

And when you disappear

They will lie

And say they noticed you
