1992

Y/n couldn't believe she was finally standing at the entrance of the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology in Mumbai. The bustling campus filled with eager students, towering buildings, and the air buzzing with academic excitement marked the beginning of her new journey. Her parents, with a mix of pride and concern, had sent her off with a stern reminder to focus on her studies and excel with higher grades.

Feeling the weight of their expectations, Y/n made her way to the administrative office to collect her hostel assignment. As she walked through the campus, she couldn't help but marvel at the grandeur of the institution that was now her academic home.

Despite her accomplishments in securing a spot at IIT Bombay, the journey to this point had not been easy for Y/n. The intense pressure and competitive nature of the entrance exams had taken a toll on her mental health. The whispers of self-doubt and the struggle with suicidal thoughts had almost derailed her dreams. However, today marked a new chapter in her life, a chapter of freedom and a chance to live without the heavy burden of those dark times.

She was standing in the line of the students, mainly boys as they stared at her. She looked around in hope to see any girl but couldn't.

"Name?" The guy at the counter asked, without taking a glance.

"Y/n Kapoor." Hearing a female voice, the guy looked up and nodded with a smile. "H10"

She thanked him, took the card and walked out of there. Y/n was looking around here and there while dragging her suitcase, with the glances from the boys.

As she was walking, she looked down at her card reading everything suddenly she bumped into someone. Looking up she found a guy with curly hair, wearing a multicolor jacket and a jeans.

"Sorry." She said and was about to walk away when the guy stopped her. "Do you need any help?"

"No thank you." She smiled.

"I'm Raghuvir Chalkar also known as Raggie." He smiled extended his hand.

"Y/n Kapoor." She said as she shook her hand with him.

"First year?"

"Yep, Computer science and engineering." She nodded. "You?"

"I'm your super senior. Mechanical engineering, final year."

"Great. Well I need to go now, I still have to get to the hostel and unpack."

"Oh yeah sure. I hope i'll see you around Y/n" He smiled.

Y/n smiled back and walked to the direction of H10.

Y/n entered her modest dorm room, feeling a mix of excitement and nervousness. The small space had two beds, each with a tiny desk and wardrobe, making it clear that she would need to adapt to the compact living arrangements.

My room is even bigger than this.

She thought as she looked around.  There was already a girl here as she saw some suitcase and bags with the books arranged on the other side of the desk properly. As she began to unpack her belongings, trying to find a place for everything, the door swung open, revealing a confident and assertive girl.

The girl leaned casually against the door frame, eyeing Y/n's efforts with a hint of amusement. "Freshie, huh?" she remarked, a smirk playing on her lips.

Y/n looked up, surprised by the sudden appearance of the senior. "Yeah, just trying to settle in," she replied, a bit unsure.

The girl chuckled. "I'm Eshana Bakshi, third year Chemical engineering."

"Y/n Kapoor, Computer science and engineering." She said.

Eshana nodded scanning her room. "Well, welcome to the cozy life of an IIT dorm. Hope you like getting up close and personal with your roommate."

Y/n chuckled nervously, not entirely sure if Eshana was joking or not. "Yeah, it's... cozy."

Eshana raised an eyebrow, "Cozy, huh? That's a generous way to put it." She strolled further into the room, glancing around. "Little piece of advice for you, freshie. Keep your side tidy, and don't expect too much privacy. This isn't exactly the Hilton. Also, all the other people in this place are just horny guys who might come here to just touch your pinky finger and with a girl like you, they act like animals, will follow you around and all you know, so be safe, there's no one to help unless you are brave enough to do something."

Y/n nodded, taking the words as a mixture of guidance and a warning. "Got it. Thanks."

Eshana smirked, "Oh, and the walls are thin. Like, really thin. So unless you want the entire floor to know your business, keep the noise down."

Y/n blushed slightly, realizing the reality of dorm life. "Noted."

Eshana chuckled again. "Alright, well, enjoy your stay in the luxurious IIT accommodations. Oh, and by the way," she added with a taunting tone, "your dorm is one of the better ones."

With that, Eshana turned and walked out, leaving Y/n to ponder the challenges and quirks of her new living situation. As the door closed, Y/n couldn't help but chuckle to herself, thinking that if this was the best dorm, she could only imagine what the others were like. She took a deep breath, ready to embrace the unique experience that awaited her at this college.
