"See you later Gracie!" Spencer said goodbye as she stepped out of the bakery.

She took three steps, then stopped in place.

She wondered if this was another one of her dreams.

He put his hands in his pockets, not speaking.

If this was a staring contest, she'd win.

She still hadn't blinked.

This wasn't real, this was her mind playing tricks.

This was cruel.

But the wind blew her hair back, and she could see his shoes.

"Hey Spence, you forgot your sleeping bag" Maxwell came out, handing it to her.

"Thanks Max" she took it, placing the band over her shoulder.

She had slept over at his place, and she knew what it looked like.

But Remus didn't need to know that she slept in Gracie's room, with Gracie.

Maxwell saw Remus, then he looked back at Spencer.

He was real then.

"You okay?"

"Mhm" she nodded. "Just gonna walk home" she smiled.

"Need a ride?" he asked, ignoring Remus.

She shook her head softly, "thanks but I'm okay, promise."

"Call if you need me, yeah?" he squeezed her arm.

"Yeah" she nodded.

He went back inside, leaving them to stare at one another.

He took a breath, "how are you?"

"Why are you here?" she asked.

He shrugged.

Not knowing what to say.

After a few moments, she walked past him.

She took eight steps, she counted.

"Spence" he spoke.

Her heart sank.

She hadn't heard that voice say her name in what seemed like forever.

This was the moment she dreaded and longed for at the same time.

She turned around, facing him.

Would words even articulate what she was feeling?

What was she feeling?

Happiness because she knows he's alive and well?

Anger because of what he did... the words he last used?

Love? The feeling she felt?

Feels?

Fuck, what was it.

"It's strange seeing you here in front of me," she said, "I've been staring at afterimages of you in places you haven't been in months."

There's a silence.

He awkwardly shifts.

Spencer can hear the wind blowing on the trees.

Summer is here, in full effect, and so is he.

She wished he'd say something.

Anything.

But nothing came out of his mouth.

She walked toward the burrow, Remus three steps behind her.

She dug her nails into her palm, this was real.
