JAMIE'S POV:

A month had gone by since El closed the gate. Everyone made it too, Will is much better and Hopper is adopting her. The lab officially shut down and they released a statement saying that Barb died from a chemical leak. Life is starting to go back to normal, well somewhat. The middle school dance was later that night and I promised Max I'd help her get ready. I wish I declined because I would have to see Billy. I was snapped out of my thoughts when Hopper sat in front of me. We started doing weekly lunches to stay caught up with each other.

"Hello? Earth to Jamie," He said.

"Oh, sorry. Hi," I smiled.

"Have you picked what you want from the menu yet?"

"No, I was waiting for you."

"Yeah, sorry I'm a little late."

"It's okay, you're the chief."

The waiter came over, "Are you guys ready to order?"

Hopper said, "Yeah, I'll get the BBQ hamburger, no onions, and a coke."

The waiter wrote it down, "You got it. What else?"

I said, "I'll do the BLT with fries and water with a lemon, please."

"All right, that'll be out for you guys soon."

"Thank you!"

"So..." Hopper started, "How's everything?"

"Family is great! Mom got a new cat and I got fired. Whatever."

"And?"

"And what?"

He rolled his eyes, "Steve. How's it with him? Are you two official? When can I talk to him?"

"Oh...yeah, uh, about that. We aren't going to be a thing."

"Why?"

"Well, you're going to hate this, but I love Billy."

"Go on,"

"He is a good person deep down, and I think he needs help making that come out."

He smiled, "You always give people a second chance."

"Thanks, Hop."

Just then the waiter gave us our food and drinks, "All right. If you guys need anything else just let me know!"

I smiled and thanked him. We both then started eating.

"How's everything with El?"

"Oh, troublesome."

"Really?"

"Yeah, she wants to go to the dance but it's too early for that."

"I don't see the issue, it's just a dance. Plus, she can get her hair curled and do some makeup."

"It's a lot of people."

"Hopper, it's a dance for kids. What's the real reason?"

He sighed, "Fine, it's because Mike is going to be there."

I laughed, "That's what you're worried about?"

"She's only 13, way too young to have a boyfriend."

"It's a dance! They can go on real dates later. Let her have this."
