I was sleeping soundly beside Jim when he slipped his baton out and put it with his clothes quietly. Jim clipped his Holster to his belt and he went to the den sleeping in the arm chair closest to the door that he rigged to send an alarm to him and Pete. Jim promised Pete he'd take care of me. Tomorrow I would watch both Pete and Jim, my dad, Mac compete in the Policemans annual Olympics. Pete back in his high school years was an all star athlete and according to me he still is, to me of course. They had been working out after hours at the academy to compete together.
I tossed around turning violently muttering in my sleep. I screamed sitting up suddenly when Jim came running out of breath.
"I'm sorry I woke you." I said wiping tears away.
"That's why I'm here Millie." Jim said when he turned stiffling a cough.
"Here's your jacket back. I don't need it anymore. It's too hot now." I said when he smiled.
"Yeah." Jim agreed, "Now get some sleep ok?"
"I'll try." I said.
"Try harder." Jim teased messing sit my hair.
