the thing about sadness

the sadness, i learned, never really goes away. it stays in your body and molds the cages of your heart to give space for itself.

it knows it's weight — heavy, unbearable at times. it's weight could double overnight and you wouldn't even notice it. it expands and wraps itself around you like a weighted blanket, all comfortable and snuggled up. its weight could be as heavy as having the world on your shoulders. sometimes it's like as heavy as your body, and you would feel like you have to use up all your strength just to have the will to stand up and get out of bed.

you just get used to it's company. it never really goes away. it stays inside you for as long as you live and appear before you when it feels its presence is needed again.
