Snow was swirling against the icy windows once more, and before she knew it, the eleventh of December had arrived and it was Layla's birthday. She was finally seventeen, which meant that she was now officially of-age and the trace was no longer on her.
Her birthday got off to a bit of a bumpy start. Ron and Hermione still weren't speaking, though they both still got Layla presents, as well as Harry, Ginny, Neville, Luna, Parvati, the Weasley twins, Remus, Hagrid, Tonks, and a few others.
Half way through her birthday, Dean gave Layla her birthday present, only to find out that Dean had actually forgotten her birthday and that it was Harry who had reminded him a few days prior. Layla was pretty much stunned for the rest of the day.
However, as her birthday came to an end, Layla had never felt so many emotions bubbling inside of her at the same time than she did in that moment. She had left her letters until that evening, and when she had opened her dad's letter, almost a dozen photographs fell out of the envelope. The letter read:
Layla, Happy birthday, honey. Another year gone. I was cleaning up Grimmauld Place the other day and I came across a number of photos that Sirius had tucked away inside a shoe box under his bed. I thought you might like to have them. They were, of course, all taken by muggle cameras by the lovely Lily and your even lovelier mother. However, I did also come across some baby photos of you that your mother had taken. I completely forgot I had them. Well, they are yours now. I love you, Lay. With love, Dad x
That night, on her birthday, Layla remembered crying. Crying so hard as she looked through all of the photos that Remus had sent her.
