(This is Keefe's perspective of the first and most popular Foster-Keefe moment *besides the kiss* starting on page 492 of Exile!)
I sighed super loudly and dramatically so Foster could hear me.
It's so boring up here... And it's cold. And Glitter Butt's back isn't exactly comfy.
"I'm guessing a tickle war is out of the question?" I asked. "Because you're pretty vulnerable right now."
"Try it and see what happens." Foster challenged. I smirked.
"You do realize that just makes me want to do it more, right?" I noted.
"I'm serious, Keefe."
"I know. That's the problem." I mumbled.
*Skip some sentences for good measure*
"Aw, what, you don't want to make this a regular thing?" I asked.
Foster shook her head.
"It's a little different for me, Keefe. There's kinda a lot riding on this." Foster whispered, sounding... Scared?
Fear flooded my senses.
But... It wasn't from me.
It was from her.
"Like your health and your future and Alden's health and stuff?" I asked gently.
"Which I thought you cared about---Alden at least." Sophie snapped.
Disbelief washed over me. She thinks I don't care? I care about her more than anyone in the world, and I've been so afraid to show it that I've hidden it far away from her view.
Fear shouldn't keep me from showing her how much I care about her.
Because otherwise... She'll never look at me the same way I look at her.
I leaned closer. "I know I crack a lot of jokes, Sophie, but... That's just because it's easier, you know? It's how I deal. But that doesn't mean I don't care. I do. A lot."
I could feel another emotion wash over me.
One of Foster's emotions.
Wait... Is that...?
Fluttery feelings? Embarrassment? ...Love?
I've never felt her emotions this deeply before. Maybe I really do have a chance. Not just some shreds of hope to hang on to.
"Are you scared?" I whispered, trying to cover up my enormous smile.
She shrugged.
"You don't have to be. I meant what I told Sandor. I'm not going to let anything happen to you." I replied.
And I was going to keep that promise.
No matter what.
*Eeeeekkk!!! The Glitter Butt flying scene!!! I'm so happy!
