(Keefe's POV)

Okay, so... Have Foster's abilities doing crazy things that torture her... Or never see her again. That is the hardest choice to make. Ever. Well, besides running off to the Neverseen. I actually had to use my braincells for that one.

And now I have to use them again... Ugh.

"I can't leave my family behind." Foster whispered, her eyes closed shut like she was trying to stop tears from spilling over. "I love you guys too much."

"Foster, look at me." I said.

She didn't open her eyes. It was like she was too afraid to see my expression.

"Sophie, look at me." I repeated more firmly. I could tell she was surprised that I used her first name, but her eyes slowly opened, and the second that they did, I got lost in those golden brown eyes. It seemed like the same thing was happening to her.

Like we were speaking telepathically, but not at all.

I finally found my voice, my heart fluttering as I took her hand, staring at our twined fingers as I spoke.

"You can't keep torturing yourself. I love you, but..." I glanced at my kids. "Sometimes love means doing what's best for you, not doing what I want."

"Woah." Alsee breathed. We all turned to look at him. "Dad actually said something poetic." Ellerie elbowed him in the ribs, and I couldn't help grinning.

"As I was saying," I continued, Foster's eyes meeting mine again. "I might want you to stay with me, but... Staying away from us might be what's best for you. And I love you too much to have you tortured by these abilities."

A tear rolled down her cheek, and I brushed it away, stroking her face. She closed her eyes, her expression peaceful as she leaned into my palm. Ellerie, Alsee, and Macie hugged her, and I joined in to make it a complete family hug.

"I can't leave you guys." Foster suddenly whispered. "I can't. I would be in more pain without my family than with horribly uncontrollable abilities."

"Mom-" Macie tried.

"No, honey." Foster said firmly, staring down at her children. "I'm staying. Nobody can change my mind."

Foster let go of the hug and went to leave, but she stopped in the doorway.

She didn't turn back, but I could hear her loud and clear when she said, "I'm going to get an ability restrictor from the Council. And nobody's gonna stop me."

*****

(I bet you thought that was gonna be the cliffhanger, huh?)

Well, sorry, but it was.

Nah, just messing with you.

(Sophie's POV)

I marched out of the house, but Keefe sprinted in front of me and held his hands out, trying to stop me.

"Keefe, I already told you-"

He took my hand, cutting me off. "You can't do this to yourself. I won't let you."

My glare was sharper than a knife. "Keefe, let go of me."

"No." He said firmly.

"Keefe-"

"I already said this. I'm not letting go until you agree to go inside with me." Keefe said.

"And I already said this. I'm not letting anybody stop me." I replied.

"Foster, this isn't like you-"

"Well maybe you're wrong about what I'm like." I snapped.

"Foster, I know you better than anybody. And you've never acted like this. Doesn't that prove how wrong this idea is? It's changing you in ways that aren't-"

"I warned you, Keefe. Nobody's stopping me. I'm sorry." I whispered. My vision rimmed with red, and rage boiled up in my stomach, finally being released as I struck the love of my life.

I turned around to find my children staring at me with wide eyes. Like I wasn't their mother anymore.

I glanced back at Keefe. Then a lump caught in my throat as I stared at his features.

"What... What have I done?" I whispered. A tear rolled down my cheek. When Macie reached for me, I stepped back.

"Get away from me. I'm a monster." I choked out. Then I sprinted away from my family.

*SO EMOTIONALLY HEARTBREAKING

Oh.

Wait.

That's how I planned it.

Okay, well, if you're emotionally scarred, I'm sorry. (Not really, lol)

Team Foster-Keefe for...

For the win?

Or for the loss?

*Awkward silence as you sob into your pillows*

Okay, on that happy note, peace out besties!
