(Keefe's POV)
"No, Keefe, we can't run away." Foster whispered. "We'd uproot our kids' lives! We'll be fugitives."
"I think we're both very familiar with that feeling." I pointed out. "Remember when we hid with the Black Swan?"
"Yes, but the Black Swan was able to hide us. Also, we didn't have a family to take care of!" Foster exclaimed.
"And I'm very glad that we have a family now," I replied. "But because our kids are related to you, they're probably going to be strong and determined, just like you. Meanwhile, I'm the biggest wimp ever and I'm not even strong enough to do anything but run away from my problems."
"Keefe, you are the strongest person I've ever met. And you've had a good reason to run away, all this time. I've never really told you this, but... Every time that you've run away, I feel like I've understood why. I was never mad at you because I felt the same way." Foster mumbled. "Maybe it's because I know you so well, or because I chose right," I smirked. "But we both understand each other really well." Foster finished. "And... I understand why you want to run away, but... Maybe we should talk to the kids about it first."
"Fine." I grumbled. "But only because you're super cute when you talk about our family."
Foster blushed.
"Good to know that I still make an impact." I teased before I slipped out of the room. Time to go talk to the mini version of me.
*****
(Sophie's POV)
I took deep breaths, deciding to look through my medicine cabinet. Elwin insisted on putting every single exilir in the world in here. Cause chaos seems to follow me everywhere.
I grabbed one that said "headache meds" and poured it in my mouth. Instantly, my headache was gone. I sighed with relief.
My telepathy was painful to use now, because it opened my mind to ALL of the thoughts. ALL of them.
I flopped down on my bed. The second I did, I heard the sound of glass shattering, and I sat up quickly to see Ro dusting off her metal armor.
"Hi, Ro." I mumbled, too tired to care about how much that window was. "What do you want?"
"Why can't I visit the Foster-Sencen fam?" Ro teased.
"Because you always want something. And it's never good. Also, you have to stop breaking our bedroom window. It's annoying and expensive." I snapped.
"Woah, Feisty Foster really came out a lot these past few years. I really thought you'd be happy to see me." Ro replied with a raised eyebrow.
I sighed heavily.
"Sorry. I'm just feeling a little... On edge. My abilities have been acting up, and it's just been super stressful." I whispered.
"It's okay, Blondie. I forgive you. Now, where's the treat stash?" Ro asked.
Before I could respond, Keefe, Ellerie, Macie, and Alsee came into the room.
"Ro?" Keefe asked in happy disbelief before they chest-bumped each other. I rolled my eyes, noting the confusion in my kids' expressions.
"She's an old friend." I explained to the kids. "She takes some getting used to."
"Nope. It's simple. Don't call me anything but Ro, don't ask what the Ballad of Bo and Ro is, and give me snacks. Then we'll be besties. Oh, and, bonus points if you have any dirt on Team Foster-Keefe. I want ALL the details." Ro said.
Macie giggled and ran over to Ro, looking up at her with sparkly eyes. "Are you an ogre?"
"Yes, I'm the princess, actually." Ro said proudly. "Cute kid. Probably cause of Blondie, but maybe some Hunkyhair genes are in there, too."
"Aww, did you just call me cute?" Keefe teased.
"I said you have a cute kid. I'm not agreeing to anything else." Ro warned. She picked up Macie and put her on her shoulders. "Come on, mini Blondie, time to rob the kitchen." Macie giggled as they left the room.
"I don't think we should leave our only innocent child with Ro..." I mumbled.
"Eh, she'll be fine. I think." Keefe replied.
"Are we really running away to the Forbidden Cities?" Ellerie asked quietly. "Are we gonna be fugitives?"
"Well... We might have to be." I admitted. "But all that matters is that we have each other. The rest... We're gonna figure it out."
*Sorry that was an abrupt ending. That's all for now! Hope that was enjoyable or somewhat satisfying.
