You tap the keys

you write the phrase

you send it on its way

You hope it registered respect

for what you had to say

No way to gauge reception

no knowing its affect

no reaction thru a visual tell

No vocal feedback treat for ear

just a soundless knell

Then comes the ring

that says there's mail

the return you've waited for

You read with interest the returning words

and prepare to write once more

Will you ever meet these people

from all around the world

the ones you thought you'd like to know

Who are they really, what are they like

is this digital connect the only way to go

Should anonymity remain the way

letting enigmatic mystery spike

with fantastical images left to guess

It would disrupt this pleasant connect

so realistically... the answer's yes
