Moments I've had across the years

Moments of happiness, moments of tears

I'm not unique in that respect

But I've reached a moment I didn't expect

Through all the battles, big and small

A binding love helped both stand tall

But even love has an Achilles heel

In a universe not designed to feel

A universe that just moves on

Without a thought to hope that's gone

A lifetime's wreckage in its path

And hopelessness, its victim's wrath

All the love that went before . . .now lost by one forevermore.

Some worry about a legacy

How will this world remember me

It won't, it really doesn't care

Our existence is neither here nor there

How we spend this life we own

With someone else or all alone

Is governed by the choice we make

About what we give and what we take

And in my case, I took a vow

The consequence I'm learning now

That life has just a fragile tether

Just how strong, depends on whether

My love alone will be enough . . . so we can both remain together.
