The Must Read Story

a tongue in cheek personal gift to Addison

There's a story told

that is so old

it's nearly all forgotten

but enough was saved

to tell a tale

before the lines were broken

It was just blind luck

that some survived

the tale being so ancient

even the ink employed to write its lines

had lost most of its pigment

From a dusty corner

beneath a desk

curled pages reclaimed the light of day

and with hours of gentle loving care

were revealed to all of us today

The story is a classic

a must for every shelf

to be taken down and glorified

and never lost again

preserving always what they signified

So there it is, now yours to know

to revel in its wisdom

and pass it on to waiting youth

continuing the steady passage

toward an unadulterated truth
