Remember that date I mentioned last chapter? Well Lydia was preparing for it. She was in her kitchen cooking up some barbecue chicken, sliced cheesy potatoes, and some rolls. She planned on packing some water and soft drinks into a cooler because she was good on alcohol for a while and Blake was too.
Blake was at home packing up his bag for Japan. As he threw some of his clothes in he realized he forgot to tell Lydia the group was heading out of the country. He figured Schlatt told her he was leaving, but might not have mentioned they were going too. He was going to text her, but nick came in his room with his camera, causing him to get distracted.
Lydia had finally made it to the park. They had certain spots you could reserve that were made for picnics and far enough away from each other it was secluded. She was wearing her favorite sun dress, it was a solid green color and had ruffles at the bottom. She texted Blake as she set the cooler and basket of food down on the blanket she had brought.

Japan. She knew Schlatt was going and he mentioned other people were gonna be there, she didn't realize Blake was one of them. Her phone buzzed in her hand and she sat down on the blanket as she held it up to her ear. "Hey."
"I'm so fucking sorry. I meant to tell you then I kept pushing it off. I was gonna text you earlier, but nick started recording and I got distracted." Blake said immediately once her heard her sad voice.
"It's okay. I forgot to tell you I was sick." She tried to sympathize.
"Yeah, but you were passed out on medication, I was just procrastinating."
"Blake, it's okay. You'll be gone for a week or so, right?" She asked staring at the sky.
"Yeah."
"We can reschedule this 'surprise' date for when you get back. It's okay. I can wait longer." She said, it wasn't a full lie, but she was tired of getting the timing wrong.
"I promise I'll make it up to you." He said knowing damn well he'd be buying her multiple apology gifts from Japan.
"It's okay. We just have to figure out this timing thing better." She said with a small laugh and heard his own laugh on the other end.
"Yeah. We will. I gotta go, we're boarding." He said as they called for his group to start boarding over the intercom.
"Have fun in Japan. Don't do anything stupid." She told him as she stood up.
"I won't. See you when I get back."
"See you when you get back." She said before hanging up. Lydia took a deep breath as she packed up the picnic and started heading back to her car.

The boys had been in Universal Japan all day and it was finally time for them to go to Super Nintendo World. As they were looking for the bands Blake was looking for a 'forgive me' gift since he forgot to text her. He planned to get her her main character she played as for Mario Kart so he pulled up the notes app since he knew he had it written down. "Do you have an entire note for Lydia?" Isaac asked when he saw Blake pull out his phone.
"Yeah. Just stuff I need to know or things I found cute about her." He said as he looked around the store for something Rosalina related.
"Likes the smell of coffee but isn't a big coffee drinker? Favorite song is knee socks? Mains as Rosalina in Mario Kart?" He read off the list.
"Yeah, like I said, stuff I need to know or find cute. She said she used to main as peach on the Wii until she unlocked Rosalina. And she doesn't like coffee cause she doesn't want coffee breath so she's an energy drink person, but only the sugar free ones." Blake rambled absentmindedly as he focused on finding something, anything Rosalina related.
"You sure you're not in love with her?" Isaac asked as he watched his friend finally find something.
"Not yet." He said as he grabbed the Rosalina plushie, her Luma, and a plastic crown that looked like hers.
"Not yet?" Isaac asked as he helped Blake bring it to the register.
"I really like her, but it's not love until I can feel it from her. If I love her and she doesn't love me, it feels like it's only admiration."

"Let me get this straight. You made a whole meal, rented a spot in Cedar park, wore your favorite dress even if it could've gotten dirty, all to surprise Blake?" Niki asked from the other line of the phone after Lydia explained her day to her.
"Yeah, he came over and took care of me when I got sick the day of our date. Did he have to do that? No, but he did. He also didn't have to buy fake flowers and make me a bouquets of them. On his own, but he did. So, I'm planning the next date and it will be a surprise. I just hope the timing is right next time." Lydia sighed as she put the picnic basket back in the closet.
"I'm rooting for you. There's no way that timing is going to stand in the way after everything else that's happened."
"Oh trust me it's not. I'm going to make sure of it." Lydia said as she sat down at her computer and turned on her switch.
"Good. Because I am convinced you two are made for each other."
"I'm gonna admit this to you, okay? I'm doing the notes app thing again. Don't tell Schlatt." She said as she pulled up Mario kart.
"Awwwww! I love it when you do the notes app thing. Oh my god, he has you wrapped around his finger doesn't he?"
"Yeah. Pretty much." Lydia smile with a blush on her face. She clicked on the familiar blonde character with the teal dress before selecting her Kart. Little did she know Blake was buying the same character for her in Japan.
Maybe Blake was wrong.
Maybe he isn't just in admiration.
Maybe that love is reciprocated.
