Cheating?

The days leading up to Bakugou's birthday were supposed to be filled with excitement.

Well, Y/N was excited, but there was hints of anxiety buried deep in her chest.

She had been working with Kirishima to plan the perfect surprise for Bakugou. A birthday party, a cake designed with his favorite things, and gifts that showed how much she truly appreciated him.

But things weren't going as smoothly as she'd hoped. It wasn't that she was having trouble planning the party, it was more about keeping it a secret from Bakugou. He was always so perceptive, always a step ahead, and Y/N knew the moment he started getting suspicious, the surprise would be ruined.

She and Kirishima had been working late into the evenings, trying to get everything just right. But every time Bakugou sent her a text or asked where she was, she felt like her cover was getting closer to being blown.

"Are you sure he won't notice?" Y/N asked quietly, sitting on one of the couches in the dorm lounge, flipping through a small notebook filled with notes and ideas.

"Trust me, he won't," Kirishima replied, his voice filled with confidence. "He's too focused on himself, right?"

Y/N let out a small chuckle. "Yeah, but he's not dumb. And he's been acting... I don't know, a little distant lately. Almost like he's suspicious of me."

Kirishima raised an eyebrow but then shrugged. "He'll come around. He might be the type to get jealous, but he's also the type to appreciate something like this once it's done. You just gotta get through these next few days."

"I just hope he doesn't freak out when he finds out," Y/N muttered, her mind racing with thoughts of how Bakugou might react. He was a lot of things, intense, passionate, fiercely protective.

But he wasn't exactly the type to sit back and be surprised. He hated being the center of attention, and the thought of all of his friends gathering around him in celebration made her nervous. Would he be angry? Would he think it was stupid?

The next few days passed in a blur of quiet phone calls, hurried conversations in the halls, and subtle movements to keep Bakugou from finding out. Y/N kept her distance, pretending to be busy with homework and study sessions with Kirishima, even though her heart longed to be with Bakugou.

The tension between them started to build. Y/N had noticed Bakugou's texts becoming more pointed, more demanding. He wasn't exactly asking where she was or who she was with, but there was an undertone of irritation in every message, like he could feel something wasn't right.

And then came the bombshell.

It was the evening before his birthday, and Y/N was in the lounge with Kirishima, putting the final touches on the decorations. They'd planned everything out, balloons, a cake in the shape of an explosion (for Bakugou, of course), and a few simple presents. It wasn't anything huge, just a little something to show him how much he meant to everyone.

But then, the door slammed open. The sound of heavy footsteps echoed through the room, and there, standing in the doorway, was Bakugou.

"Oi, where the hell have you been?" he growled, his fiery eyes scanning the room. His glare shifted between Y/N and Kirishima.

Y/N froze. Her heart skipped a beat. This was the moment she had been dreading.

"K-Katsuki?" Y/N said, her voice a little too shaky, betraying her calm exterior.

"What the hell is going on?" Bakugou snapped again, his usual bravado making it clear that he wasn't in the mood for any kind of game. "I've been texting you all day, and you've barely replied. You've been hanging out with him," he said, pointing an accusing finger at Kirishima, "and I haven't heard a word about what you're doing. What's up with that?"

Y/N blinked, taken aback by the intensity of his words. She was shocked by how angry he seemed. "Kats, it's not like that-"

"Not like what?" he cut her off, storming toward them. His eyes narrowed, suspicion burning in them. "You've been acting weird. You've been spending a lot of time with him lately. Are you two-"

"-Cheating?" Kirishima finished for him, raising his hands defensively. His expression was half-embarrassed, half-amused. "Come on, man, don't jump to conclusions. It's not like that at all."

But Bakugou wasn't convinced. His fists clenched at his sides as he looked between the two of them, his temper flaring. "Then what the hell is it, huh? Because I've been trying to reach you, and all you've been doing is running off with him!"

Y/N's chest tightened. She could feel the weight of the misunderstanding building between them. "Katsuki, please. Just listen to me," she pleaded. She took a deep breath, trying to calm her racing heart.

"I'm planning a surprise for you... a birthday party. That's what's been going on. That's why I've been spending time with Eijiro for the past couple of days."

There was a beat of silence.

Bakugou blinked. His scowl faltered for a moment, replaced by a confused frown. "A birthday party?" he repeated, the suspicion in his voice slowly giving way to confusion.

Y/N nodded, stepping closer. "Yes. It's supposed to be a surprise for you. I didn't want to tell you because I knew you'd act all... grumpy about it. But that's why I've been acting weird. I didn't want you to find out too soon."

Kirishima, now seeing the misunderstanding clear as day, grinned widely. "Yeah, man! We've been working on it for days. She's been keeping it a secret, and I've been helping out with the decorations. You're gonna love it, I swear!"

Bakugou blinked a few more times, the color slowly draining from his face. "Wait... You're throwing me a party?" He rubbed his temples, clearly embarrassed now. "Dammit, I thought you were... ugh, I'm an idiot."

Y/N sighed, both relieved and slightly frustrated. "Yeah, you are. But you don't need to act like that. I wanted to do something nice for you."

Bakugou glared at her for a moment, but his features softened, and he let out a low growl of annoyance. "Tch. Fine. But next time, don't plan shit without telling me first."

Y/N couldn't help but smile. "You're impossible, you know that?"

"Yeah, well, whatever," Bakugou muttered, but there was a warmth in his eyes now that wasn't there before. "Just... don't hide stuff from me again, okay?"

Y/N stepped closer, wrapping her arms around him in a hug. "I'm not hiding anything in the first place, no need to overthink. But only because it's your birthday."

As she hugged him tightly, she could feel his tension melting away. He might not have liked surprises, but it was clear he appreciated the effort. And as much as he hated to admit it, he was glad Y/N cared enough to do something so special for him.

Kirishima, watching the interaction, gave a thumbs up. "Well, looks like we're all good now."

Bakugou shot him a glare, but even that didn't feel as angry as it used to. Maybe, just maybe, he could let himself enjoy this birthday after all.
