𝑱𝒐𝒗𝒊 𝒔𝒂𝒕 𝒐𝒏 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒘𝒂𝒓 𝒓𝒐𝒐𝒎 𝒕𝒂𝒃𝒍𝒆, legs crossed, arms folded, watching her dad like a particularly dull episode of a show she'd already seen a hundred times. Packing, scowling, grumbling under his breath — classic Dean Winchester behavior. But this time, there was a twist.

"So, you're actually letting me stay here alone?" she asked, tilting her head, voice laced with mock surprise. "Didn't think you had it in you, old man."

Dean shot her a look that said watch it, kid. "Don't get used to it," he grumbled. "I'm only letting you stay because this hunt isn't your fight."

Jovi blinked, momentarily stunned. He wasn't forcing her to come? To throw herself into yet another suicidal mission, covered in blood and bad decisions? It was almost sweet. Gross, but sweet.

"Since when has that ever stopped you from dragging me along?" she asked, arms now uncrossing as she studied him.

Dean zipped his duffel aggressively, like the mere act of securing a zipper would keep this conversation from happening. "Since the thing we're hunting is literally the guy who gave you those freaky-ass powers."

And there it was. The real reason.

"Wow," she mused, flipping her hair over her shoulder. "That almost sounded like you caring about my well-being. You feeling okay, Dad?"

Dean rolled his eyes so hard she was concerned they'd get stuck that way. "Hilarious."

Jovi smirked but felt something tighter coil in her stomach. "So what, you think if I get too close to him, he'll be able to—what—mind control me?"

She was joking, obviously, but Dean's expression didn't budge. His jaw tightened. His grip on his bag flexed. Oh. Oh. He wasn't just worried — he was actually scared.

Jovi's stomach twisted.

"I don't know what he's capable of when it comes to you," Dean admitted, voice lower now. "And I don't wanna find out. So, you're staying put."
