While waiting at the helicopter pad, the air was stiff with tension- I tell you not even the sharpest katana could slice it. You were silent too, Phoenix was pacing behind you, you could hear his sharp breaths- Viper had already warned him that if he was too upset it would be counter-intuitive for him to follow them into enemy territory.

The rag-tag team that Viper and Brim had assembled included Sova, Phoenix, Skye, Jett and you. Luckily, you were also being overseen by Viper and Brim from the helicopter base.

There was much fear and tension in your mind. This was not at all a mission you expected to even hear of, fate does work strangely sometimes.

"No guys, I can do this! I have to do this!" Phoenix whispered.

"My friend, I have much faith in you." Sova reassured him, guiding Phoenix to sit next to him.

"So what is the plan?" Jett says, in a voice so high-pitched you could immediately sense her hesitation. Jett also gave you a look of understanding, she was very much aware of your situation.

Subconsciously your overdriven mind caused your foot to impatiently tap out of beat on the floor, your fingers desperately picking at your nails. Jett linked arms with you to stop your thoughts and your habit and gave your arm a squeeze, releasing a breath, you nodded to her and looked at Brimstone and Viper.

"Our plan is simple, we all split up into pairs and check the area we have in mind. We are headed to an abandoned city location in Los Angeles, the protocol calls it 'sunset', quite suitable for today. It has three main city hubs, so we will have groups allocated to thoroughly searching each area. Since Yoru's final distress signal was traced back to here, we have a heavy suspicion he is still in the area." Brimstone finished his explanation with a glance at each of you and your fellow agents.

"Alright, who goes with who?" Phoenix asked. Speaking for the first time since the aircraft had left the ground.

"Phoenix, you will go with Jett, to A site" You saw Phoenix's eyes light up.

"Sova, you will go with Brimstone to the midpoint," They nodded at each other.

"And Skye, Y/N and myself will go to the B site." Viper finishes.

You wondered what purpose you would truly serve tonight. It is just before sundown and it's not like you would have night vision or something like that. With the way Viper spoke, you sounded like an extra who was just thrown into this mission for the hell of it.

After a couple of minutes, the craft had landed and you had all been hurried off the plane, you were all equipped with automatic rifles and some protective armour.

"Y/N, our protocol has created these guns for us, the one I've given you is called a 'Vandal,' I'm sorry you haven't had time to master it yet. Just know that you are receiving this as a precaution and we have no intention for you to use it just yet." Brim reassures you as he gives you a quick guide on how to aim, reload and store the weapon. You sighed in relief, realising you may never use it today.

Brimstone also shows you an earpiece and radio device, he clicks it onto 7, the channel you will be using during this rescue mission. You were about to practice pressing the record button when your eardrums were blasted off by Phoenix's blaring voice.

"YO YO YO BRIM, I MISSED THESE THINGS!" You turn and see Brimstone's expression morph into one of disgust. He facepalms and turns back to you.

"Head on over to Viper, Y/N. I have to go discuss tactics with Phoenix." He says, eyebrow twitching. You hold in a laugh because it is NOT the time or place.

You walk over to Skye and Viper and they give you a nod of approval, double-checking your gear and vandal.

"Let's head in, everyone. Good luck." Viper whispers into her earpiece, gesturing to the groups behind you to follow behind. You all stealthily leave the forcefield-protected wall created by the aircraft.

As you walk through the forcefield, your hair stands up, you feel the sizzling protective electricity just barely react with your exposed skin. Skye smiles at your reaction, she's probably too experienced with it, having no reaction when she passes through.

The silence is obvious and a light breeze is all you hear as you split with the other groups and work your way to your locations. Viper moves herself in front of you and Skye, her gas mask is up and she appears to be on high alert. You see her suddenly stop and pull out her weapon.

Your heart stops for a moment. She peers around the corner and immediately darts back. "Infrared sensors" She whispers through your radio. With no hesitation she traces a pattern on her right wrist and ejects some sort of machine into the air. It spreads out into a vast line of mechanical pieces. In a few minutes it has turned into a wall of green gas.

"Make no contact with the wall. Poison." She adds in the radio. Skye and you nod at her and you all walk alongside it, stopping behind cover in the middle of the site.

"Be ready, wall down in 5 seconds, we need to fight." She tucks you behind Skye and herself. Readying her gun.

You hear the gas fizzle out like the last bit of air in a balloon. BANG!
