“So what you’re saying is that you won’t care if Emery goes back to Nevada when he turns 18 in a couple weeks?” my mom wonders.

“No, what I’m saying is that I don’t care if he stays or goes anymore,” I declare.

My mom creases her eyebrows as she cuts a couple cucumbers up.

“You don’t care about him anymore?”

I sigh. “Mom stop putting words in my mouth! No, what I’m saying is that he’s never cared about me so why should I care about him? I now have amazing friends who won’t ignore me. Emery? He ignored me and everything in-between.”

“Alright, alright. Do you think he’s going back?”

I shrug. “Probably, seeing as all his friends are back in Nevada.”

“Whose friends are back in Nevada?” my dad asks as he walks in the kitchen.

“Emery,” my mom and I both answer. I chuckle.

My dad steals a cucumber and my mom glares at him. Ah old love. “So the boyfriend coming over for dinner tonight?” he questions.

“The boyfriend being Noah but yes. Is that okay?”

My dad nods. “Yeah, Emery’s inviting a girl as well.”

I crease my eyebrows. “A girl? He’s never mentioned a girl?”

“She’s blond, skinny, tall…. She was over here the other day.”

I make an ‘o’ shape with my mouth. The girl he was screwing the other day! I guess him and her got pretty serious after the whole sex thing. She’s been hanging out with Emery for a couple days and they’re always meeting each other places. I was happy Emery found someone.

“Jesus Noah, do we need to lock the doors?” I look behind me to see Noah entering the kitchen.

Noah cringes. “Sorry, Mr. E.”

My dad laughs. “I’m just messing with you. Do you ever see the other guys using the doorbell?” we all shake our heads. They really don’t. “alright kids go and watch TV or something before dinner’s ready.” I roll my eyes at my dad but grab my crutches and Noah and I head up to my room.

“Going natural tonight?” Noah questions.

I sigh. “I was until I heard Emery’s bringing a girl over and I don’t want her staring at it all night, so help me?” Noah sighs and puts my caps down.

“Come on, Cedes when are you going to let some silly girl walk all over you? So what if she stares? You can’t always hide in that prosthetic leg.”

I shrug. He was right but I don’t want her staring. “I don’t like when people stare.”

“Then wear jeans but you’re letting a girl you barely even know walk all over you,” he sings as he sits on my bed.

“Will it make you feel better if I leave it like this?” I ask as I move my half leg in my shorts. Noah nods. “fineeee,” I groan.

Noah grins. “So he’s bringing a girl?”

I chuckle and slid onto his lap then straddle his hips. “That girl we accidentally walked on.”

Noah bursts into laughter. “This is going to be awkward as hell!”

My boyfriend is a total positive guy.
