"Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you. Happy birthday dear, Mackenzie! Happy birthday to you." My family and best friend walked into my room with a large cake. I smiled, knowing I was finally 18.It's been 4 months since I last saw the boys and a year already since I last spent my birthday with them. Calum and I never stopped talking and he was the only one to wish me a happy birthday.
"Make a wish." Sydney pushed the cake in front of me, candles lit. I closed my eyes shut, making my wish. I opened them soon after blowing the candles out, watching the smoke rise.
"Yay!" The three of them cheered. "Now here," Uncle Gavin said as he took out his wallet, handing me a fist-full of cash. "Take this and go have fun tonight." He smiled. Him and Jenny left the room soon after, leaving me alone with Sydney.
"So where to first my friend?" She smirked, taking a see next to me on my non-made bed. I looked at her, thinking.
"Well being it's only 11 in the morning, maybe we could just go out for lunch?" I laughed.
"That sounds like a good idea." She poked at her stomach. "I am pretty hungry."
Grabbing my keys, I walked out of my room, "and we're off!"
Hearing a small laugh escape Sydney's mouth, I smiled knowing that I am at least somewhat funny.
Driving away in my car, we soon pulled into Mr. Hemming's restaurant. I was greeted with open arms as I walked in by Andrew, himself. "Ah, Mackenzie! It's always nice to see you dear."
"It's always a pleasure, Mr. Hemmings." I smiled.
"Oh you know better to call me Andrew!" He chuckled. "Now isn't today your birthday? The big 18?"
"Yes it is! I'm glad you remembered." He led us to a table and we took a seat, looking at the menus he put before us.
He came back sooner than expected with our drinks, water for both of us. "Now what can I get you lovely ladies to eat?"
Sydney ordered a burger, while I ordered some spaghetti. Andrew walked away and Sydney and I conversed.
"So what exactly do you want to do after this?" She played with her golden bracelet that hung loosely on her left wrist.
"I want a tattoo." I said without thought.
Looking at me wided-eyed, she asked, "Are you serious?"
I nodded. "Yeah, I am."
"Okay, it's your birthday. I'm not arguing. Just don't be coming to me when you regret it." She huffed, leaning back in her chair.
"I won't regret it. I already know what I want." I said clearly.
Andrew soon came back with our food, but also with some more workers.
"Happy birthday to you.." They sang, putting a cupcake with a candle on top in front of me. I smiled and started to tear up. When they finished I blew it out, but didn't make a wish. My life was good right now and I didn't need to make more than one wish on my birthday, anyways.
"Are you sure you want to do this?" Sydney questioned for at least the 4th time since I brought it up to her at lunch. We were parked in front of the tattoo parlor, ready to go inside.
"Yes I'm sure. You're acting like I'm making you get one too." I joked, getting out of my side of the car.
"I'm sorry, I just hate needles and I hate looking at them and the way they go through your skin and ahh." She cringed at the thought. I laughed, dragging her inside and saying it would be okay.
