We were setting up for the party when Ashton had walked over to me.

"Hey Ash, did you ever talk to Luke?" I questioned as I finished hanging up the huge ass banner.

"Yeah I did." He was smiling at me like a kid in a toy store. He looked pretty stupid just standing there smiling.

"Well what did he say? You've been avoiding me since that day! - Can you help me with this side? - Like dude, what the hell! Avoiding people is my specialty." I looked over at him but he had his eyes locked on the ground with that stupid smile sprawled across his face.

"Well you know what you were talking about doing before?" He looked up and me, reminding me of my so called "plan."

"Um yeah." I got down from my step ladder and brushed off my hands on my pants. He looked at me and sighed, "Just stick to it. Trust me."

"Surprise!" We all yelled jumping from our hiding spots. Luke let out a scream since he was definitely not prepared for this. We had done an amazing job of keeping all of this a secret and Andrew, Luke's dad, was able to get him out of the house for a while so we could set up.

Happy Birthday's were said to him as he made his way down the hallway. The guys grabbed him and pulled him in for a birthday hug. As they let go, Luke and I made eye contact. This was my chance.

I made my way up the stairs and to his room. I had set up some things leading up for him to see before he entered. I know, I'm corny.

Luke's POV

The lads grabbed me in for a group hug and it made me feel welcome. I've never had friends like them before, well friends at all.

When they let go, my eyes met with Mackenzie's. She quickly looked away and started to walk towards the steps. I wasn't sure if this was a sign to follow her, or if she was still avoiding me.

I didn't care if she was avoiding me, I'm still going to find her. I have to tell her the truth about what I thought about our kiss.

I walked in the same direction as her, but was soon stopped by my mum. "She's a keeper. Don't screw this up." Was all she said before she followed my dad into the kitchen with the guys. It's like they all knew what was about to happen before I did with the looks they gave me.

I stood there for a second completely flabbergasted.

I continued to walk up the steps and was met by a card at the top of the staircase. Being curious and knowing that it was probably for me, I picked it up. Luke was written on it, so I opened it.

Dear Lucas,

I smirked knowing that I didn't have to read on to know it was Mackenzie.

I'm sorry for avoiding you. I know that we're in an awkward-ish state right now, and I want that to end. I want to feel close to you again. I want to go out and have fun, maybe even as more than friends. If that's not how you feel, then it's okay. By the way, happy birthday Lucas.

Love, Mackenzie.

I looked around to see that she wasn't anywhere in the hallway, so I kept looking. Walking down the carpeted floor I made a left turn and saw a huge plushed penguin sitting at my door. A smile made it's way on to my face and picked it up, hugging it close to me.

I walked through my door and put the penguin down on my bed to be met with yet another thing. It was covered in wrapping paper so I didn't exactly know what it was, except the fact it was square.
