Johnny-
Lorrie plays game after game of gin rummy with me. Helping me with the formulas for my Calculus class. She's right about one thing, if I wanted to apply myself I'd probably be great at Calculus. But if I did, I wouldn't need her anymore would I? I'm only doing as much as he has to keep a grad at a C, just to stay on his basketball team.
A phone begins ringing. "Excuse me a moment." Lorrie says standing up a phone in her hand she heads to the kitchen.
"Father." Her voice is icy calm the voice on the other line must be on speaker.
"Hei rakkaani" a deep voice answers. *Translations will be in perenthasies they are according to Google translate, not sure how accurate they are* (Hello dear,)
"Where are you?" She asks the man, her father.
"Suomi." He answers. (Finland)
"It must be beautiful this time of year." Lorrie answers a chair scraping against the floor.
"Kyllä" He answers (Yes)
"How are you father?"
"Hyvin. Ja sinä?" He answers. (Well, And you?)
"We're all good," She answers.
"Äitisi, on äitisi hyvin?" (Your mother, is your mother well?)
"We don't see her much, but I'd assume so."
"Kun näet hänet kertoa hänelle soittaa minulle." (When you see her next tell her to call me.)
"I will father." She says, "When will you be home?"
"Aion olla kotiin ensi vuoden kuluessa." He answers (I will be home within the next year.)
"Okay. Goodbye father, I love you." Lorrie says. Benny looks up from the fire. He looks over to the kitchen.
"Hyvästi kultaseni. Minäkin rakastan sinua." Their father says, (Goodbye Sweetheart, I love you too.) The line disconnects and Benny walks over to Lorrie. My unanswered questions lingering in my mind as we all fall asleep that night on the floor by the fire
