He who wins the war writes the history books. His war is the only one that is just, anything else is a foolish act of rebellion against power. True power, in 22nd century America is being unblemished and clean skinned. A tattoo on the wrist is the mark of the suppressed, three links bind an individual into a lifetime of servitude that no one would choose. To be bought and sold like an animal is the highest form of humiliation: according to the slaves. According to those who wrote the histories it is deserved, even though the Great Revolution was over 300 years before our time. Meriddion VanShay didn't believe the history books for a second, how could a tattoo really make that much of a difference?
