I looked away a small shriek leaving my lips, and I felt a blush cascade Over me, well, I was NOT expecting that. I heard the sound of bones popping and cracking and looked back and black eyes stared back at me. I watched as they receded and Carmel brown eyes stared back at me

~hop on, we can stop by the house on the way~ I nodded standing as he laid down, I slid my hand over his fur my whole body alive with energy, energy that sung through my veins and skin as he ran, my hands holding tight to his golden fur.

We arrived at the house and I slipped off of him, landing on my feet, somewhere I had lost the shoes I was wearing. I heard bones cracking and quickly closed my eyes, not long after I felt warm hands touching my wrists gently trying to remove them from my face

"I'm decent, you can open your eyes" I looked up at his face, his solid and prominent jaw line, sprouting a short layer of stumble his eyelashes perfectly framed his caramel eyes, his lips where a full pale pink, he really was amazing.

"Okay, I'll go, get changed, is there a wash room I can use" he nodded and slipped his hand into mine, something I was unaccustomed to, but welcomed none the less

I looked in the mirror making sure that all my scars where covered before opening the door, the room Austin had shown me to was huge and smelled strongly of him, didn't take a genius to figure out where he took me to clean up and get changed.

"I'm not good with this helping thing, but do you need anything" I looked up at Austin who was sitting on the bed and shook my head

"Why do you want me to come to this ball, wouldn't it be more appropriate if someone of your own species was to attend with you" Austin shook his head, he looked frustrated

"I feel like I can talk to you, you understand the loss of love, you understand struggle, and you are raising two children, I think you need to get out more" I smiled slightly, communicating with Tully and the Boys through my telepathic connection asking them to take care of the kids and to take Sam out for ice cream.

It didn't take long for us to move through the house and to his car, I frowned at the expensive looking car, and shook my head,

"I have a magnet for trouble, maybe something more, sturdy" a laugh escaped him and he turned around pointing at another car then disappearing I turned to find a 4x4 land cruiser and nodded when Austin returned with the keys.

"So, dress shopping, how does this go" I shrugged, i had never really been one for dresses usually someone else chose dresses for me, I was a pants and top kind of girl "well maybe we'll just find something that seems appropriate, I guess, so, my sister always says elegance is key, like you where wearing today" I nodded as we started towards a dress shop

We walked into the shop and I was already at a loss, again Austin slipped his hand in mine and squeezed gently, I looked at him and he shrugged, I saw a lady walking by who had a name badge on and I instantly walked over to her

"Excuse me, but, I'm looking for a dress to wear and I am not exactly cut out for this, shopping exposition, but from what I've heard the event holds elegance to a high standard" the lady smiled and wrapped a tape measure around me getting a few  measurements, then told us to sit down

She returned not even minutes later with some beautiful dresses, she guided me to a change room and Austin to a viewing room, I pulled the first dress on and my stomach dropped, they don't have sleeves. I stepped out and looked around the lady popped up seconds later

"There a problem dear" she gently pushed me into the viewing room. Then her eyes skimmed my body and her face fell "I am so sorry, I swear" I shook my head and smiled gently

"It's okay, but sleeves and higher neck line, please" she hurried away leaving me In the dress I had decided to put on first, Austin's eyes where black as I looked him over, and his face was scrunched up slightly

"Did Aiden do that to you" I sighed and sat down next to him

"Not technically, when our bond got broken they didn't heal, it was a tracking mark from a warlock, he moved on fast enough though" his eyes where back to their mesmerising Caramel brown

"Why would anyone not want you" I looked up a small blush cascading over my cheeks and quickly changed the subject

"Your wolf, he has the same name as your brother" he smiled gently and nodded

"Yeah, they don't get along though, Artemis feels my brother, we call him Artty, out of respect for a goddesses gift, is not suited to the roll of alpha, not for our pack, that is" I frowned not understanding "our pack follows old law, but my brother was born to a human woman our elders rejected it until it was agreed that even women and half breeds could be alphas, I guess it has always been that other species as long as it was the alphas true mate, well it was accepted, but Artemis believes that Artty should lead a pack who isn't taken with tradition"

I understood, it was unacceptable for a half breed mer folk to lead and rule, it's just not how things are done. It was at this point looking at Austin lost in his past that I remembered an ancient law my mother once told me that I hoped would cheer him up.

"My mother told me when I was a toddler about the most sacred law in mer folk history. Before our species all King gave his life to quicken his children, it was written that the last male child of a blood line would take rule from all lines of Meralion blood thus because to hold a male child after the effect of a quickening on our DNA is something sacred in itself, Samuel James Melcast is going to be the new all King of my species, as soon as he comes of age, that is why no one knows of his existence, because he would be killed. Our species much like yours cherishes purity in our leaders, that is why it is so rare for a male to be born, our last all King was the purest of spirits, therefor the soul of the child has to be untainted to survive it's birth and the quickening that must be performed upon my coronation, by me, which could possible kill me"

He nodded along half way through my story I realised it wasn't cheerful, to me it was, knowing that my kingdom would be safe from anymore harm brought by our destructive lines of spoilt royalty. The lady walked back with the perfect dress, I went and tried it on not letting Austin see before we went and payed.

Sorry, I'm a horrible person, I know, cliff hanger he flashed her. Sorry, I'm probably going to post the next chapter as well though.
