Fifteen Fortune Cookies

My favorite moments are simple treasures.
Like tracing patterns on his back as we lay in bed together,
Running in the rain the first day I met a friend,
Standing in someone's driveway
because it's their bands first gig,
Smoking cigarettes on rooftops,
Eating fifteen fortune cookies with people I've just met
simply so I can get those little papers.
Waking up with my best friend
and all three of her cats right next to me,
Playing ukulele on the back porch at two a.m.,
because everyone inside is asleep.

I wish that at times like those I could just say "stop"
The world would stop turning.
I could perform a thousand times and it'd be the same day,
I could sing along at the shows and I'd still only be 17,
I could hide with him from thunder storms for days and it would be nothing.
These moments make me happy.
Not the fleeting happy,
The forever happy.
They take the sadness and replace it with a happiness that never quite leaves.
So imagine if I could make those moments last until it was all replaced.
Imagine.
