Chapter 17; Trip to Hell

Elaine's POV
We got into the car Alice is driving because for the first time in a long time I'm tired and need to sleep.
I sit in the back as Alice races down the slick roads.
Carlisle sits next to me as Bella sits in the passenger seat.
I lay my head on Carlisle's shoulder and close my eyes.
He kisses my forehead.
When I fall asleep all I have are nightmares,
What if we don't make it in time?
I can't loose Edward he's my everything, my little brother.
Carlisle shakes me awake and I can see that we're at the airport.
We walk through the airport Carlisle and I hold hands and sit together as we wait for our flight.
"Bella why don't we go get Elaine and you something to eat?"
Alice asks looking at a twitching Bella.
She nods and they get up to go look for something to eat.
Carlisle has his face nuzzled in my hair so that the smell of others blood doesn't overwhelm him. He hasn't gotten to hunt for a few days now.
I hold his hand tightly.
"Are you okay?"
He whispers,
I look down at him, he hasn't lifted his head.
"Yeah I'm fine, why wouldn't I be?"
I whisper back,
He shrugs.
"You looked like you were having a nightmare."
He says,
I mimic him and shrug.

Carlisle POV
I look up at Elaine's face.
It's taken some getting use to but I am finally getting to know this new face of hers.
She has big circles under her eyes and she looks pale, I know it's probably because she's tired.
Her human body must be catching up with her.
"I'm fine, just scared we won't get there in time." She whispers,
I nod.
"Are you okay otherwise?"
I ask,
She looks up  at me and smiles.
"I'm fine baby, it's just weird for me to be this much like a human."
Bella and Alice come back with chips and other kinds of snacks they could manage to find in the airport gift shop.
We sit there until our flight is called.
We board and take out seats.
Alice and Bella sit down behind Elaine and I.
"So what do you know about the Volturi?"
Alice asks Bella from behind us.
Elaine seems to wince at the word Volturi.
"Are you okay?"
I ask,
She looks over to me.
"Let's just say that Aro and I aren't on the best of terms."
She whispers.
I nod, not wanting it to push it any farther.
"Why don't you try and get some sleep again?"
I whisper.
She shakes her head.
"I'm gonna go use the washroom."
She gets up and walks to the back where the bathroom is.
I sigh, all this stress can't be good for her.

Elaine's POV
I need to be alone for at least a few minutes. I walk to the bathroom and see a young flight attendant with a cart.
She smiles at me,
"Anything I can get you ma'am?"
She asks.
I look at the cart.
A small bottle of scotch is on the top.
"A bottle of scotch please,"
I whisper,
She smiles and grabs the small bottle, she doesn't even care me. I must look as old as I feel right now.
"How much do I owe you?"
I ask,
She holds her hands up,
"You look like you need it, it's on me."
She says with a smile.
I take the bottle and smile back,
"Are you sure?"
I ask,
She just nods and continues walking down the aisle.
I smile after her.
"Thank God for nice Flight Attendants."
I walk to the bathroom with the bottle, Carlisle would kill me if he knew what I was doing right now,
He absolutely hates alcohol, thinks it's disgusting. Even when he was human.
I open the door and slide it shut, I push it so that it says occupied and then stand there.
There's no way to close the toilet seat and I don't want to just sit on the seat so I decide to just stand and drink.
I open the bottle and take a swig.
I look up to see my own reflection in a mirror. I look like I did when I was human.
I look like me.
That's all I've ever wanted, but it still is a little too much.
I take another swig not looking away from the mirror.

Alice's POV
I sigh as Bella asks me another question about the transformation.
I answer it to the best of my ability, then I look to see that Elaine hasn't returned yet.
I stand up,
"Hey I'll be right back, I'm just gonna go see what's taking Elaine so long."
I walk down the aisle and to where I saw her go into earlier.
I knock and wait,
"Mom?"
I ask,
"Who is it?" She asks in a cheerful voice.
"It's Alice, can I come in?"
I ask,
I hear a laugh escape her, then she slides the door open and pulls me inside.
I shut the door behind me a change it back to occupied.
The bathroom surely wasn't made for two fully grown adults, but happily for us neither one of us was really full grown.
I look to see a giggling Elaine holding an almost empty bottle of what appears to be some kind of alcohol,
"What you got there?" I ask her trying to hold in my own laughter.
"Some scotch, you want some? She asks,
I look at her, almost laughing,
She lightly hits herself in the forehead with the palm of her hand.
"Sorry, I forgot,"
Then she starts laughing again.
"Mom, why don't we go back to our seats?"
"No! Carlisle is there!" She cries,
"He's not suppose to know about this,"
She says shaking the bottle in her hand.
I finally let myself laugh.
"C'mon lets get you to a seat."
She sighs and nods throwing the rest of the bottle away in the trash.
