Elaine's POV
The rest of the way to Volterra was pretty smooth, Alice didn't have any other vision, this freaked me out cause I didn't know what was gonna happen and I didn't think we were gonna make it.
We had to stop at a gas station for gas where Bella and I switch seats because apparently I look tense and need to be my Carlisle.
Alice drives silently as Bella freaks out.
Carlisle holds onto me, holding me close to his body.
"Are you okay?"
He whispers to me. He still seems to be mad with me but its masked with concern now.
"Yeah, I'm fine, I'm just stressed,"
I whisper back. I feel him kiss the top of my head and smile.
"We're gonna make it,"
He reassures me but he doesn't seem so sure himself.
I nod slightly and try not to think so much about Edward.
"Can I ask you something?"
He asks, I nod.
I look to see him looking at me with a guarded expression.
"Who was that Dean guy you were talking to earlier?"
He asks,
He's worried about Dean.
I chuckle a little.
He raises an eyebrow,
"Why are you laughing?"
He sounds kinda hurt.
I turn so I am facing him and take his chin so that he's looking directly into my eyes,
"Dean is my Godson,"
I answer,
He looks shocked,
"What? I didn't know you have a Godson,"
He says, I laugh,
"No one knows, John, Dean and Sammie's father and I kept it that way. You see I was friends with their mom, Mary. She was a hunter, she was tracking down some vampires one day when she met me. She saw good in me, and spared me. I taught her that not all of us are monsters. I helped her with her hunts for a few years after she had the boys but then-"
I pause, I look down for a second.
Carlisle puts his hand on mine.
"Then what?"
"She was murdered, by some damn demon."
I whisper, this time he's the one that grabs my chin so that I have to look at him.
"I'm so sorry baby,"
I shrug.
"Anyways, when she passed I was away, I can back and helped John look after the boys for a while. He was my friend. I loved him, but not like that. I could have maybe, but I wouldn't be able to betray Mary in that way."

Carlisle's POV
No matter how much I learn about Elaine's past she never ceases to amaze me.
She's done nothing but help people.
"Your amazing,"
I whisper.
She smiles shyly, then shrugs.
"They're family."
She answers.
I lean towards her and kiss her, she kisses back, leaning closes to me.
We separate for a minute, and I look to see that we are entering the city.
I sigh and she looks out the window.
Visitors walk around in red cloaks.
"Why is everyone wearing red cloaks?"
Bella asks in a worried voice.
"Saint Marcus Day festival, it's people coming to celebrate the commemoration of vampires. They'll never let him by if he reveals himself here,"
Elaine leans forward so she can see through the front windshield.
"This is more festive than I remember. "
She mutters.

Bella's POV
Elaine leans forward so her head is between Alice and my seat,
Thank God she is here, I don't think I could do this without her,
She runs her hand through her hair.
"When was the last time you were here?"
I ask, curious.
"It was at least thirty years ago. Aro, the leader use to be some sort of friend of mine."
She says not looking away from the front windshield.
"Why haven't you come back?"
I ask,
She shrugs,
"Aro can be a little overbearing,"
She says simply.
I nod, I haven't the slightest idea what she means.
"Okay, Bella,"
Alice says, I feel the car suddenly stopping and see that we can't go any further. People are all over the place, and there's no way to drive.
"Listen to me, your gonna have to run the rest of the way. You and Elaine if she uses her shield are the only ones he won't see coming,"
She explains. I nod, I'm ready,
"Okay, I'll go,"
I say,
"I'll go with her and make sure nothing happens to her,"
Elaine says, looking eager,
"No,"
Carlisle growls, pulling her forcefully back by the waist.
She frowns and turns to him,
"I'll be okay, I promise,"
His anger seems to subside, and his face softens.
"I love you, to the moon and back,"
She whispers,
Carlisle smiles sadly,
"And I love you to the sun and back,"
He finishes the last thing they said to each other face to face before the whole James thing happened. I can't believe it's almost been a year.
"Um, guys I don't mean to hurry you, but you gotta go," Alice says.
Carlisle sighs and slowly lets go of Elaine.
We both jump out of the car quickly,
