"TALK TO him." Sophia said.
Riley had, somehow, managed to get Lucas' number, but instead of texting him or even opening her mouth to speak to him. She would stare at him and his number for hours.
"Why? We have a great text relationship." Riley said.
"You know what's a better text relationship?" Maya asked.
"What?"
"Talk to him." Sophia repeated.
"He's right over there." Maya said.
"Noooo! Too complicated over there. Lots can go wrong over there. The only thing that can go wrong over here is if I go over there." Riley explained.
Relationships seemed complicated. Maya had never been in one and Sophia, well, she had never though about dating bingo l her eyes landed on Lucas that day one the subway.
Maya pushed Riley towards Lucas and Riley tried to talk to him.
Nothing came out of her mouth so Maya and Sophia tell her to talk to him. With visuals.
Then she smelled him.
Riley felt proud and walked back to her friends.
"How'd I do?" She asked.
"You smelled him." Maya said.
"Yup." Riley said.
"You smelled him and thought it was a great idea?" Sophia questioned.
"I walk through life, the way I walk through life." Riley replied.
"Can we please talk about this?" Maya asked.
Maya pulled out her phone looking at the text Riley sent her.
Sophia didn't have a phone. She couldn't really afford one. If her grandparents needed anything they called Matthews. Plus, Maya's phone was only half-decent.
"Nope." Maya said.
The trio made their way to class and soon, Mr. Matthews started his lesson.
"You guys don't connect with each other. It's like you can't exist without these." He said, holding a phone up. "You use emoticons rather than emotions. You're an unfeeling generation of zombies."
