"Madam, Mr. Mendes is awaiting."

I grinned, running my fingertips through my stiff curls, drenched in hairspray, and then followed my hands down to my gown. Small beads of jewels encountered my palms, along with pieces of lace and cotton. The textures ranged from soft to rough, flowing all the way down to my heels. "Shall Mr. Mendes enjoy my appearance, Elijah?" I asked quietly, walking toward the dark oak doors that reached toward the painted ceiling. Beautiful paintings lined the boring ceilings, all just for me.

Elijah nodded, straightening out his suit with a smile. "Ms. _____, Mr. Mendes shall enjoy, of course."

I played with my lip with my top row of teeth, gently hooking my hand within Elijah's as he guided me through the castle and toward the stairs. "I'm nervous, Elijah."

"Princess, you are beautiful. Thou knowest that he will love you."

"May it be embarrassing that I have not yet found someone?"

"You are the princess. You shall never be embarrassed in front of one."

I gripped on to the rough sleeve of his jacket, using my free hand to pick up my dress from dragging along the tiled floor. We slowly approached the cascading stairs, and I immediately spotted my love at the bottom of the last step. Wearing a well-fit suit that complimented his body, he waited for me, watching me walk down the stairs with one of his hands lapped over the other. He grinned as we met eye contact.

Elijah and I took it slow, careful for I not to trip, but we made it to Shawn successfully. "You look divine, my lady." Shawn greeted as I stepped down from the last of the stairs.

"Good morning, my love." I spoke softly and curtsied slowly, keeping in mind of the manners I was supposed to show off.

Shawn smiled once again, giving me a bow before grabbing my hands, kissing my knuckles teasingly slow, looking at me as he did so. "How are you, Princess?"

"I'm lovely, and may I ask you the same?"

"I'm doing well." Shawn grinned, hooking his arm for me to loop mine through. "May we go?"

I gripped on to his bicep with a smile. "May we go."

"What shall this be?" Shawn asked, looking at the scenery of our back garden.

"Mother's garden," I answered, looking up and beside me at Shawn. "May it be tradition where the queen of the castle will continue."

"May I ask why a woman of such beauty has not been engaged?"

I laughed to myself. "Men act like dogs, my love."

He chuckled. "Shall you say the same about me?"

"No," I laughed, shaking my head. "Love, thou would not be here if that were true about thee."

"Flattering." Shawn teased.

I grinned, looking down at the bright green grass and the barely blooming flowers of the hedges. The area around my glittered heels became vibrant, contrasting against each other. "Do you love me?" I blurted out, going against any manner I was supposed to follow. The question was squeezed in to my head, and it was aching for me to pull it out.

Shawn was startled by the question as he stopped walking. I didn't know what to expect.

"My apologies," I muttered. "I didn't mean-"

"Now, Princess, why would you ask that?"

I fiddled with my fingers, as I responded, "Men don't care for me. They care for the throne."

"Ah," Shawn breathed out, delicately taking my hand and pressing his soft lips against it. "Princess, I would not care of your status. Princess, queen, or servant."

"That's not what I am asking, Mr. Mendes," I said quietly, almost at a whisper. "Do you love me?"

Shawn looked down at the floor and then back at me. "Yes."

"Say it."

"Why-"

"Say it."

"I love you, ______."

I shut my eyes and took a deep breath. "That was all I shall ask." I remarked, turning back around and back toward the castle.

"Princess, may I ask you a question?"

"What may that be?"

"Do you love me?"

"Why would you ask that?"

"Well," He chuckled, taking my hand. "I love you, and it shall be a bit unusual for me to love you, and you do not love me in return."

He got on one knee, pulling out a ring.

"Do you love me, Princess?"
