Shawn faced me as I finished my shower, walking in to the cold air of our room to change. He laid awake, breathing evenly as his long fingers played with the white bedding with his eyes holding a gaze on me.

I got changed in to a set of plaid pajamas, slipping off my ring before placing it on to the ring holder beside my side of the bed. Shawn scooted aside as I sat down, resting my back on the white headboard, not yet ready to fall asleep.

"Is Jane asleep?" I asked quietly, feeling water droplets race down the skin of my back.

Shawn nodded, bringing his hand from underneath the sheets to, instead, bring them in to the warmth of my own. "Shay should be home soon." He said, and he was right.

Five minutes later, we heard the jingling of keys and the clicking of her sneakers. She was home 15 minutes later than her curfew, but the feeling was different from other times. I began to feel angry once again, but as I approached our bedroom door, I heard her sniffles along with the throwing of her shoes.

I looked back at Shawn who was now aware of what was happening. Shawn peeled the covers from his body, shuffling his feet toward me. "I'll go..." He whispered, kissing my cheek as he opened the door quietly, before sneaking out of our room.

I kept the door cracked open, watching Shawn walk up to her, laying a hand on her back as he asked what was wrong. She only cried more, snaking her arms around his waist as she cried in to her father's chest. Mascara ran down her cheeks, her eyes filled with tears and her dark brown strands of hair sticking to the frame of her face.

Shawn stayed quiet, tightly embracing his arms around her as he kissed her forehead, rubbing his hands along the length of her back.

"H-He b-broke up with m-me, Dad."

I watched Shawn let out a sigh as his eyes shut, placing his hands in her hair as he cooed, "It'll be alright, Shay. He's just a boy."

"I-I don't know w-what I d-did wrong." She continuously stammered as she spoke, like she was embarrassed to tell Shawn.

"You didn't do anything wrong, Shay," He let go of her, hand still on her back as he led her to the couch. Shawn began to tell her to take control of her breathing and take it slow before he spoke up, "Tell me what happened."

Shay looked down at her lap, wiping her eye once more before saying, "We were at dinner, a-and once we finished...he said it. He said he didn't love me anymore, Dad, and I swear I w-would've been home earlier, b-but I didn't want to ride back with him."

Shawn looked just as sad as Shay did. He hooked his arm around her shoulder, bringing her in to his chest as he rested his chin on top of her head. "Listen to me, okay?"

Shay nodded.

"I'm not going to say that he didn't deserve you, nor will I say that he's an ass because, well, you know that already. Thing is, I'm not going to talk about him, and how much I hated him, and how much I didn't want him to date you since I liked the boy. I believed he treated you right, but life has to have its balance, and life decided that there had been too much good.

"You are going to have to go through this, but I'll be here. Your mom will be here. Your little sister will be here.  You're a beautiful woman, Shay, and I don't have a bit of a doubt that you won't find another boy who'll fall head over heels for you.

"It's going to be okay, Shay."

She leaned her head against his shoulder and he slowly leaned back to lie down. Heartbroken and shattered, Shay slowly calmed down in the arms of her father.
