That you're alive and have a soul

Eren forced the corners of his mouth to turn upwards.

"I wish it were that simple..."

"I...I.."

A genuine smile graced Eren's face, "You don't have to say anything Levi. I'm fine."

Levi's grip on Eren's hand tightened, "You're not fine Eren."

Eren avoided looking at Levi, his gaze turning to the white wall instead.

"Tell me... why did you do...it?"

Silence strung out for a moment in the room.

"They never stopped Levi. The letters that is." Eren murmured still not meeting Levi's gaze.

Levi's eyes widened in realization, "From the school?"

Eren nodded not trusting his voice at the moment.

"How did they-"

"I don't know!" Eren snapped, eyes filling with tears that were quickly blinked away.

"Why didn't you tell me?"

Eren chuckled dryly.

"Tell you what?

That even though I moved from that school over a year now I still get the sickening letters?

The letters that say with so much spite how much they hate me.

The letters that say I should rot in hell.

That I should slit my wrists or cut my throat.

They even said I don't deserve y-you..."

By now tears flowed down Eren's cheeks and cries he'd tried so hard to bottle up escaped his mouth.

"They c-came everyday Levi." Eren sobbed.

Levi's thumb glided across the smooth surface of Eren's cheek, wiping away his tears.

Levi arms held Eren's shaking body as best as they could as he continued to sob.

"I'm s-sorry I didn't tell you..." Eren hiccuped.
