The sun and moon symbol, our symbol. Something we had that we never wanted anyone to know the meaning behind. We got this book years ago and have kept it secret for so long. It was the only thing we had, besides our promise rings that we could keep "our little secret" as you would call it. This whole sun and moon thing came from a small Spanish book about the legend of the sun and moon (la luna y el sol leyenda).

It went something like this, I'll try my best to translate it to English:

"When the sun and moon were discovered for the first time, they fell madly in love with each other. As soon as they met, it was as if they were destined to fall in love - something in them knew and from that point on, something in them would always know.

It just so happened that the world did not exist yet but when everything was finally created; God gave a final touch to the sun and moon... A phenomenal brightness for them both!

It was then decided by God that the sun would sparkle in the day, and the moon would illuminate the night sky with its brightness. With this being the case, it was evident that they were forced to live apart. They overcame great sadness and when the moon realised that they would never be together again; it became increasingly distraught. Despite the brightness God had given it, the moon was becoming lonely and upset.

The sun, at the same time, had won the noble title of 'Astro King' of the sky – but all that fame did not make it happy. Regardless of all the recognition it had received for being the brightest star, it meant nothing without the moon.

God, who had seen the sadness they contained, called and explained to them both -- "you must not be sad, both of you possess a brightness of your own."

"You, Luna, seek to brighten the cold, dark nights. Your light will enchant lovers and you will often be the reason behind lovers who write beautiful poems. As for you, Sun, you have gained the most important title of the stars. You seek to brighten the earth during the day, as you provide heat to the people of the earth, your mere presence will make them happier."

Today, the sun and moon both live separated. The sun pretends it is happy, and the moon cannot disguise its sadness. The sun burns with passion for the moon, while the moon lives in the shadows of her longing..."

We never realised this story would be so relevant to our relationship now at the time we discovered it. It was just the idea of "a love that cannot be" that attracted us to it, and since became the symbol of our love.

For me, I was the moon as it was known to be mysterious and dark. In the story, I related more to the moon, I loved hard. I loved the sun more than I felt it loved me back. The sun, on the other hand, received the most fame and recognition. It received the most attention and it had the ability to brighten up the entire sky -- that was Camila.

Just like the sun and moon could not be together, neither could we and that was our relationship in a nutshell. It seemed there was no chance, no chance at all to ever come out as a couple to the world. There was no chance we would ever get to be together and that's why the sun and moon were so important to us.

There was more to the story, but I related to the beginning bit the most while you would relate to the ending. Whenever we would read it to each other, I'd always start and you would finish it off. I'll let you finish it off, for old times sake.

I do believe that we're soulmates and we'll always find our way back home to each other Camila. There will always be a special place for you in my heart. Of course, the future is uncertain and we do not know what it holds for us. However, one thing I am sure of is that I love you more than anything, Camila. Always remember that. No matter what happens between us, I love you and I support you. No matter where this world takes us, you'll always be my best friend before anything and I will always be here for you.

Here's to us; to all that we were, to all that we have been, and to all that we have yet to be.

Always and forever,
Lolo.
