i had a dream and you were in it.
talking to me as though we didn't fight.

i hardly even remember what your voice sounds like anymore.
you spoke like a robot.
you told me a story about your favourite band.
you don't do that anymore.
then your hair caught the light and i remembered tying it into a ponytail on the days you had p.e.
you shifted in your seat and i remembered the ugly dress we forced you to wear.
your fiddled with your fingers and i remembered being secretly fascinated with watching you play the clarinet.
you smiled and i remembered christmas and how i couldn't take my mind off you.
i remembered how i missed you and i just wanted to walk up to you and make a stupid irrelevant joke and have everything be okay.
i remembered how i'll never see you again and i remembered the wreckage of our once strong relationship.
and i woke up.
and i cried.
