Chapter Thirty-Eight

"Could you not just take a sledgehammer to them?" Klaus asked as he sat in a chair at the table with me on his lap. Elijah to the side of us. The stones/gems from the rings all laid on the table between us all. And Elijah had a mixing bowl and a silver pitcher.

"They were forged by a witch, brother. And as such, only the elements of water and fire can destroy them," Elijah replied, rolling up his sleeves. "I'd have thought this would bring you greater pleasure."

"As would I," Klaus said. "This was my fault. I should have taken Allie out of this city the first chance I got. Instead of playing kind. We could have had a smooth, happy pregnancy and raise our child. I should have listened to you. Insead my greed and envy robbed me of my daugher. My actions... led to the release of a weapon that could not kill just me, but you."

"For a thousands years I've survived your attempts to destroy me, brother," Elijah said, scoopping the black gems into his hands. "I imagine I can survive this."

"You will. You both will. I'm meeting Davina for coffee. Elijah, handle this. Thank you. And Klaus stop wallowing in self pity. We're fixing this. By tonight, I want everything perfect so we could live happily ever after," I told them both sternly.

"Mystic Falls doesn't have the cleanest, drama or supernatural free record," Klaus said.

"It's where I grew up. Where my entire family grew up. My daughter will be raised there whethere there's drama or not. We'll never truly escape it but for the next year, or two. Just promise me. We will all make it work. We will live there and be a happy family and keep Hope happy and safe at all costs," I pleaded with him, not wanting to argue or let him make last minute decisions.

"I promise, love," Klaus said and I looked at Elijah who nodded.

"I suggest you call, Rebekah, brother," Elijah suggested and I smiled. I pecked Klaus on the lips before saying my farewells to them both. I had a coffee date with a teen witch.

"Davina, I know you have it," I said, sighing. We've been here for nearly an hour catching up before I brought up the subject and she's been denying it. But I saw her guilty and nervouse expression the moment 'white oak' left my lips. She has the stake.

"I can't give it back, Allie," she said and I scoffed.

"Why can't you? You're plotting to kill the love of my life," I hissed quietly.

"He can't keep hurting people in this city. He's threatened Josh more times than I can count and Marcel--"

"Klaus and I are leaving town," I informed her, cutting her off.

"W-what?" She stuttered.

"Where can we speak in private?" I asked her and she frowned in confusion.

"The church," she said. I nodded and she stood up. I left money on the table including a tip before telling her to follow me. I led her to my mother's car and we hopped. I drove us to the church while we sat in silence, no radio playing either. I had running thoughts in my mind. I was hoping nothing would backfire cause Klaus would be pissed.

When we got to the church we sat down on one of the wooden benches. "What is it you want to tell me?" She asked.

"There's something I'm going to tell you. I'm trusting you with one of mine and Klaus' biggest secrets. But I need you to promise me afterwards you will hand over the stake so we can peacefully leave town," I told her.

"Tell me the secret first and we'll see--"

"Davina. I will compel you if I have to," I warned her.
