As I lay in this prison with the silence surrounding my being, I began to think about what we've been through. Everything we've survived has brought us closer together as a group and as a family.

However, my days are numbered. I know that. Every second which ticks by sends me closer to my death. The Governor wants my corpse and he won't stop until he gets it.

My mind trails off, making a list of things I need to do in preparation for what is to come but I'm suddenly snapped out of my daze.

"Rick?" A small voice questions. A voice which immediately brings a smile to my face.

I shift slightly in bed so I'm facing her. I run a gentle hand through the waves of brunette hair which frames her face. "Hey." I whisper before placing a kiss to her forehead.

I remember when I first set my eyes upon her; my blood pumping with a mix of adrenalin and hatred. We detested each other in the beginning. She was too bold and I took too many risks. However, as time continued on, each new day brought us that little bit closer until, finally, we couldn't spend time apart.

I watch as a sleepy smile appears and her blue eyes search mine. Even in the early hours of the morning, she still seems to hold an angelic glow about her. "What time is it?" She questions.

My reply earns a soft chuckle from her, "Early."

"Could you not sleep?"

I sigh and pull her that little bit closer. I notice she's wearing my shirt which brings a smile to my face. However, my smile is taken away when I realise I may never see her again if the Governor gets his way.

What if she forgets about me? What if she moves on? What if she doesn't look after Carl?

As if reading my mind, she answers like she can read the thoughts floating around in the dark space within my mind. "I've got everything covered. I love them as much as I love you."

I smile and pull her close to me so I can feel her chest rising and falling with every delicate breath she takes.

A moment of silence passes before her voice, as calm as the golden rays of sun in spring, meets me with the same love and affection I've had the honour of being victim too for the past year. "I love you."

A grin takes over my features and my heart flutters. With all of the love I can muster, I quickly reply without hesitation. "I love you too."
