Faye's POV:
"You make getting ready so difficult" Dawn groaned as we descended the common room steps with a few other girls heading over to the ball. Getting down those stairs in heels and long dresses was a difficult task, especially for someone as graceful as me. Note my sarcasm. Put me in heels and it may as well be like I'm walking on stilts.

"It's not my fault that I hate getting all dressed up" I groaned in response, trying my best to walk in a straight line. These heels aren't too bad, because I bought the shortest ones I could find which are an inch tall, which is nothing in comparison to Dawn's three-inch heels, making her even taller than she already had been. It's a good thing Dan is really tall too, or else she would be towering over him all night.

"Well, at least we got it done. We might just be a few minutes later than expected is all" she sighed as we made our way through the portrait hole and down some more steps. It didn't help that they would move.

As we walked, or as I tried to walk, I couldn't help but wring my hands together until my fingers went red from the rubbing. I had never felt these types of... I guess you could call them nerves? But they weren't quite that. It was almost like I had literally nothing to fear but everything to fear at the same time. Events like this just bring out that side of me. I'm not one to drag attention to myself anymore, and being all dressed up like this I know I'll get more of that than I would like to.

When we finally got to the Great Hall I spotted Fred standing with Dan by the railing of the steps leading to the party. I smiled when I saw him like I always do. That feeling I had described before also washed over me with more power and I thought my legs had started to shake, but it might just be because I'm walking down another set of stairs with heels and a dress on.

Dan saw us first, his face lighting up when he saw Dawn and how amazing she looked. Fred followed his gaze and turned to us, so I took in the sight of him. His dress robes were plain and black, and they made him look very polished. I'm not saying that I would prefer this style over his usual sweater and jeans, but seeing him dressed like that made my stomach feel like it was doing backflips. He smiled at me as I finally got down all the stairs and walked towards him. When I finally got to where he stood we just looked at each other while smiling, and I had almost forgotten where we were until Dawn had spoken up and kissed Dan.

"Sorry we're late, someone was being a drama queen and wouldn't let me do her makeup," she told them, sending a look my way.

"I would have defiantly looked like a drama queen if you had done my makeup. I don't need you drawing my eyebrows to look like triangles and to put so much eyeshadow on me that you wouldn't be able to see my eyes" I shot back at her, and Fred stifled a laugh, playing it off as a cough. I smiled again.

"I could have made you look like a goddess, but oh well. It's your choice" she said dramatically and shrugged.

"Now who's being a drama queen?" I mumbled, and Fred 'coughed' again.

"Let's go in, I'm dying to see the place" Dawn smiled, holding Dan's hand as they made their way towards the door.

"I swear if I don't murder her tonight it's a bloody miracle" I sighed when they had disappeared within the hall. I looked over at Fred to find him still smiling at me. My heels gave me a little more height, so I came up to about his chin now. "What?" I asked as he continued to study my face with a look of wonder. He shrugged a little.

"Don't listen to Dawn. You look breathtaking" he assured me and I felt my cheeks redden, so I looked down and smiled. I felt Fred's hand take mine so I looked up at him. He nodded his head in the direction of the hall, meaning we should probably go in now. I nodded my head and followed in after him.
