I yawn and roll over, which lands me on the floor. I end up cramping up as I do so and wince. I look over at Ashtrid, who has a grin plastered on his face.
I get up and make my way to the bathroom. I do my business then make my way out of the bathroom. I hop back onto the bed and take my phone off the charger.
I look at my phone. Wow, three text messages.
Mom: How's it going?
Mom: Oliva...
Mom: Oh, you might be asleep. Sorry.
I smile and text back.
Me: I'm awake now, and it's going fine. We are in Arkansas right now.
She texts back a moment later, telling me that they're in Colorado. Thanks to my mom and dad's energy, they got ahead. I swear I think they're energizer bunnies.
I lock my phone and lay back to stare at the ceiling. This is so boring. I look over at Ashtrid, who is still asleep. I sigh. He might be dreaming of what you looked like on the toilet last night.
I push the thought away with disgust. Ew. No. Just no. I finally give up on letting him sleep and throw my pillow at him. Ashtrid groans, "Let me sleep."
"It eight in the morning. You've slept enough," I say, which earns me a pillow in the face.
Ashtrid yawns, "Let me get some more sleep."
I chuck the pillow back at him. "No, get up," I say. "I want to get as far as we can today." I get a snore for a reply. I jump onto his bed and start jumping on it. "Ashtrid, get up."
No answer.
"Assshhhtttrrid, waaakkkkeeee uuuppp," I whine.
Still no answer.
Then, I jump on him. "Wake up, Ashtrid," I say.
Ashtrid opens his eyes. "Liv, I'm just wearing boxers," he says, but as I go to get up, he arms wrap around my waist. He pulls me to where he is on top.
"Come on, Ashtrid. Get off," I whine. "You weigh like a ton."
He puts more weight on me. Does it also help that he's shirtless? "Not until you say you'll let me sleep."
I try to squirm, but Ashtrid pins both of my arms above my head and my legs between his. "This is not fair," I say, pouting.
He raises an eyebrow. "Really? I think it's fair enough."
My pout turn into a scowl. "Get off," I say.
Ashtrid smiles a real genuine smile. "No," he says. Then, he starts tickling me.
"Ashtrid, stop," I say with a giggle. I try to turn over, but Ashtrid still has one hand pinning my arms above my head.
"Say you'll leave me alone," he says.
"You'll leave me alone!" I say between laughs.
He tickles me some more. "Promise me," he laughs.
"Alright! Alright! I'll leave you alone," I say, and Ashtrid stops. His green eyes are full with amusement. We stay still for a few moments then Ashtrid leans in, I lean forward...then my phone rings.
Ashtrid curses under his breath and gets off. I go over to my phone and answer it. "Hello?" I ask.
"Hey, honey. How is it going?" my dad asks.
I look over at Ashtrid, who's grabbing some clean clothes. He looks at me then glances away. "Fine," I say as Ashtrid goes into the bathroom.
"Well, call us if you need anything, sweetheart," he says.
"Will do, Dad," I say then the line goes dead. I look at the closed bathroom door and sigh. God, Olivia, you like him, don't you?
I shake my head. No, I don't. Never have. Never will. With myself feeling reassured, I get dressed. Of course I don't like Ashtrid.
