Another Birthday for Iza

A/N I just realized that I still haven't made anything for Shizu-chan's birthday... :o( but I usually enter a writing slump after the holidays and stuff, so it can be hard, considering it's in January, like, a month after New Years! Sorry, Shizu-chaaan! Anyways, enjoy!

Izaya sighed, opening the door to his apartment. It had been a long day.

He had more meet-ups than usual with clients, most of which were stubborn assholes who refused to pay what he had already told them was the price.

It was May 4th, his birthday. Not that he really cared. He hadn't even told his boyfriend of six months, Shizuo, that it was his birthday.

Yes, he did get a 'Happy Birthday' from Shinra, but for the most part, the main 'big event' today was the Star Wars geeks (my people) saying "May the fourth be with you", which does eventually get on his nerves, but he was glad to see all the weirdos on the streets today, very interesting.

He walked into his apartment to see it just as he left it. Too big, too cold, too empty. But, he consoled himself with the reminder that at least his lover would be there for him when the man gets off work.

His anxiety grew as the clock continued to tick past six-thirty, the time his lover usually shows up. His chipper and excited mood faded a bit more every minute that Shizuo was late.

His heart felt like it weighed a thousand pounds, Shizu-chan was never this late! He checked his phone.

"Hey, Hon, sorry, can't make it today. Love you!"

Having just received this message, though his screen says that it was sent at seven twenty, meaning that it's been ten minutes, even though he was sure he had checked it a thousand times in that last ten minutes.

Though he was disappointed that he'd spend his special day alone, he swallowed his sadness and quickly texted back.

"No problem. Love you too."

He frowned, accepting his fate.

It was fine, really, he was used to spending his birthday by himself, it being his fifth 21st birthday. He simply had one of the two cupcakes he had in his fridge, the other being for Shizuo, but he wasn't coming.

"Happy birthday to me~." He quietly said in a singsong voice, blowing out an imaginary candle.

He was just about to take a bite, when his phone rang. He rolled his eyes at the caller ID.

"Yes, Shinra? I'm not in the mood, really..." He answered in an irritable tone.

"Well, love you too, Izaya! I was just gonna ask you if, you know, for your birthday, you wanted to come over? We've got cake and booze and all you need for a party!" Shinra's voice was chipper and excited as always.

Izaya wasn't sure why he'd agreed. Possibly just because he didn't want to be alone, but hey, spending your birthday with a friend isn't as bad as being alone, but, he did. Shinra gave a victorious cheer and a quick, "See you soon!" before hurriedly hanging up the phone.

The raven begrudgingly pulled on his coat, leaving and deciding to head towards his enthusiastic friend's house.

When he arrived to the doctor's apartment building, he was greeted by Celty.

'Hi, Izaya' she typed hurriedly, as if she were a bit afraid that he'd casually pass her.

"Oh, hey, Celty~" He greeted, forcing a smirk onto his face. He didn't really have too much time to chat. As he was starting to enjoy the idea of drinking a bit and ranting to Shinra about his traitorous boyfriend.

'Happy Birthday' Celty typed.

"Thank you for remembering, despite the fact you don't really like me."

'How old are you turning?'

"Why, twenty one of course!" He replied in an offended tone.

'Of course...'

"Now, if you will excuse me, I do have a bit of 'celebrating' to do!"

'Wait!!' the PDA was centimeters from the man's face.

"Yes?" He groaned, exasperated by the sudden spark of interest the dullahan had in his life.

'What would you like? For your birthday, I mean?'

He chuckled at the question.

"Well, right now, I'd just like for a certain somebody to let me get through."

He heard a beep from her PDA and she suddenly moved out of the way.

'Well, I've gotta go, happy birthday, Izaya!'

Brushing off the strange encounter, he walked forwards to his best friend's door. He didn't bother knocking.

Surprisingly, the house was dark, there was a cupcake on the counter next to a bottle of what the man guessed was alcohol, but that was it.

Wondering where his friend was, he waited at the door for a few minutes before deciding to sit down.

Suddenly, the lights came on. On instinct, Izaya reached for his knife, unsheathing it and turning around to meet honey brown eyes, wide with alarm.

"Wow... Put the knife down, Izzy, it's just me!" Shizuo held up his arms in surrender as Shinra appeared from behind the counter. Erika and Walker popped up from behind the couch and Kadota walked out of Shinra's room.

"Happy birthday, Dear!" Shizuo laughed, pulling his lover into a hug.

"How did you know?" Izaya asked, his eyes wide with still-lasting surprise.

"Shinra." Shizuo replied, as if it were obvious, ruffling his lover's hair affectionately.

"Well thank you... assholes..."

A/N So, thank you very much for reading! Happy Birthday, Izaya! Sorry I've been having slow updates, finals are kicking my ass! Love you guys!
